Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and to a lesser extent Southern Miss have all had periods of success that while not NC caliber have gotten them national recognition. But have any of these schools been successful at the same time?

Currently the Merlin's era is beginning to grind the hope out of State fans as Freezus resurrects the Rebel Bears. Southern Miss was rolling pretty good until Ellis shutdown shop (sorry, not sorry) but it seems like they have as much of a chance as the other schools.

Do these schools cancel eachother out? *And by dominate I mean rank better than 6 & 7 in the SECw

The one time we were both successful, state had one of the biggest cheaters in college football history as their coach, while OM had an elite coach who was handicapped by one of the worst NCAA punishments ever dished out

The problem is simple. There is not enough population, money, and in-state recruits to support more than one true contender at any one time. Unless one of the schools finds a way to suddenly pull in massive amounts of talented, out-of-state recruits, there can be only one. Masslander!!!!

You know I'm tired of the Mississippi hate on here. It's not like Alabama or Louisiana are any better than Mississippi. I hope any school that plays a Mississippi school loses. GRIND [ON]

Dominate?

I do think only 1 can grind at one time...before the downfall anyhow.

This is how it's always been explained but with money from tv contracts and the popularity of CFB, specifically the SEC with this continue to be the case?

Louisiana has New Orleans but I honestly don't know what the frick Alabama residents think they are better than us at. They have Mobile. That's it.

What word would you use to describe success beyond winning the Egg Bowl?

Surprised to see A&M fans confused about the word "dominate". It's what Texas has done to you the majority of your existence.

When we mock someone for being stupid or poor and they come back with "hey, you're from MS, you're stupid, you're poor", then you have a point, but in reference to this thread, he's right. We don't have the population, thus we don't have the huge number of fans, thus we don't have the huge amount of money. Most successful programs, especially in an elite conference, do have those things.
