Arkansas should have hired someone that had something to prove.

Muss had it until he didn't.

Cal lost it years ago.

By USCe standards, Spurrier DID great there. He has the three best seasons in program history and made 9 bowls in 10 years.

He is their GOAT.

Jimbo at aTm is a far better analogy.

Nah, Spurrier could actually coach. Cal just knows how to raise money to get 5 star players and get them to the NBA without really winning championships while in college.

I love our class next year so much I don't mind this patched together squad having a meh year, was pretty expected and he said so himself coming into the season.

Spurrier took 5 years to get decent at USCe and most coaches wouldn't get a 5 year leash in this day n age.

The whole Kentucky and Arkansas thing is weird

They both are trying to convince each other how much better each hire is but they’re both equally so-so

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything as a CATS fan personally.. calipari and his shtick had just gotten so damn OLD plus he blew off press conferences and waiting fans when UK lost. He became a petulant bitch

Well, neither one of us fired our coaches, we both had to react to our coaches being stolen- as much af UK fans like to pretend like they ran Cal off, he was set to still be their coach right now.

They'd have this same team except with Quaintance and Somto but wouldn't have Thiero and Brazile.

I dont watch their games, but just thinking about the roster, you are missing something. One more quality big might be the key.

It is for us.

Well, if you go back to April threads Arkansas fans started thread after thread about taking our hall of fame coach. The reality is he violated his contract and Mitch forced his hand to leave after he expressed a desire to stay.

Then we hire Pope, and the chants of "Cope with Pope" were non stop. Again, trying to convince everyone Cal would do great things at Arkansas and Kentucky will slip in national prominence. They also seemed to think Tyson was going to give them the most money anyone could have to pay players.

Both of those things might still happen, only time will tell. I think both were expected to be in scramble mode this year assembling rosters.

No idea who will be on Arkansas roster next year other than the recruits he has.

Same with Kentucky. What I do know, is I have seen enough from Pope to know that he knows how to get players for his system, has proven he can recruit, and has gotten our fanbase excited for the first time in years.

Are we going to lose a lot more games this season in the SEC. Yes, we have the same fatal flaw Arkansas has. I think overall our team has a higher ceiling for this year.

The world will look a lot different for both teams next year. Does Cal still have it? I don't think so, but you never know. Can Pope show he can win big games? Well, things look promising, but it's impossible to know yet.

When Kentucky hired Cal, he said in his introductory press conference he didn't see himself coaching still by age 60. He should have stepped away after the 2019 season. He didn't and struggled the next few years, then took another job. I don't know if he has enough in the tank to get Arkansas another title or March wins.

Time will tell for both of us. I'm sure most Arkansas fans are happy with him, and all Kentucky fans are thrilled with what Pope is doing so far. We'll see.

And yes, I typed all of this before more than 3 sips of coffee, so it is what it is.

I think there is some truth in this.

Arkansas has some basketball history, South Carolina was never historically good at football.

Three straight 11-win seasons at USC when the SEC was incredibly strong is like taking Arkansas to three straight Final Fours. I don't think Calipari will do.

In other words, Spurrier took Carolina to way above their norm, Calipari has not. Might he? Who knows, but the comparison at this point makes no sense.

Looking at the attendance at the Ole Miss game last night, it seems the fans aren't that happy with Cal.
