We really calling a guy who has never even played in the championship game "legendary"? I realize Shadeur has bastardized the word, but it does still mean something.

I know you think you believe this makes you look sharp, but really you just look petty and small.

I agree, but if Bruce retired at the FF press conference and that night they announced the hiring of a recruiter from from another school who has never been the head coach anywhere, and then you find out he was a medical sales representative 10 years ago, what would your immediate reaction be? And I say this as someone who roots heavily for a former math teacher, but you have to admit that's a pretty messed up scenario when you step back from it a bit.
Yeah but that’s not the scenario here. He’s got a pretty big advantage with being at Auburn for the past decade and his hall of famer dad to lean on early in his tenure.

Jon Scheyer has worked out pretty well so far for Duke. Hopefully, it works out for Steven.

I don’t see it that way. I see it as Bruce knows what he is doing. He’s not leaving the program in a bad spot with his son. We all expected his son to take over way before this week.

This makes it even worse. "It's ok that we are hiring the coach's completely unqualified kid who has never worked for anyone but Daddy because the plan all along was to hire his unqualified son."

Listen to yourselves. This is embarrassing for a Final 4 program.

I think Bruce will still be involved in some way. He probably just doesn't have the energy or drive to do it full time anymore. He's going to give Steven all the advice he needs to succeed. He doesn't want Steven's legacy at Auburn to be a failure, because that would affect Bruce's legacy as well.

What is different in this arrangement from every other failed coach's kid?

Pretty sure this is the exact same thing the Houston HC is planning right now.

And it will be just as stupid if they fall for it.

Auburn has to hope it's not a John Thompson situation.

JT3 took over an awful program from Craig Eshrick and took them to their first final four in over two decades. The last four years were tough and they had some early exits in March, but overall, his tenure was successful.

You make a good point. I didn't realize that it was more Patrick Ewing who ran them into the ground.

It’s the same as any coach in waiting situation. The guy just happens to be Bruce’s son. His coaching and recruiting abilities are strong. He definitely checks a lot of boxes. Just like Scheyer at Duke.

Oh Dear Lord. Of all the young basketball minds in the nation, Bruce just happened to choose a medical device sales rep to take under his wings and promote every couple years to groom to be the HC in waiting. And it's just a coincidence that the sales rep is his son.

How would anyone know independent of his father?

Name one that makes him qualified at 38 to be the HC at an SEC program who was the #1 overall seed last year.

Wow. Scheyer was a 5 star recruit, 3 year starter, 2 time captain, and national champion at Duke. Coach K could choose from hundreds of former players and talented assistants who would beg for an opportunity at Duke and independently chose him for his skill, talent, and work ethic. By what metric was Steven Pearl chosen to be groomed as a future HC at Auburn? His father's unbiased love?

I'm not really a basketball fan but it seems like any coaching hire is a gamble, why not take a chance on continuity?

Sure? I am not sure if you know anything about the situation. Steven has been a top recruiter and probably has had more say in the gameplan going into a game than Bruce the last couple of seasons. Again, he might fail. But, he’s proven a lot over the past decade in his abilities.
