Side note, going forward I would like to see performance clauses added to coaching contracts. It’s horse shite these guys get these huge buyouts for basically putting a program in ruins.

Awarding 10 year contracts was the problem.

There’s a big difference between LSU the institution (university) and LSU TAF that is an entire different business/entity that is no where near bankrupt. Takes no money from the state, and is one of the only college programs that operate at a surplus.

While I agree, Kentucky contract with Stoops auto adds a year with a bowl game, so being rewarded for 6-6 shouldn't be a thing.
ADs need to band together and make contracts work for the school.

Its a state of Louisiana problem. I will not do business or practice medicine in that state. Compared to the rest of the south theyre run by trial lawyers and really good about not paying/ripping people off who arent locals.
The local and state politicians and local LEOs are horrible and are the most crooked human beings I've ever come into contact with.
It's an awful, awful place to do business, and I won't do it anymore - it's not even up for debate.
Whats horrifying is that they're taking over Mississippi fleeing their own politics. Don't Louisiana my Mississippi, Louisianians.
I can't believe Kiffin would choose to do business in that state over Florida after hearing this news. They're broke. They're scheming. They'll do the same to him in 4 years.

They don't know the difference...

So, LSU has to pay to fight Kelly's buyout, will end up paying the buyout, then have to somehow come up with the money to possibly make Kiffin the highest paid coach in CFB?
It's going to be a nightmarish couple of years for children's hospitals down there.

Kelly should have swtiched agents and hired Jimmy Sexton when he came to the SEC. No SEC school would ever try this shite on a Jimmy Sexton client.
Jeremy Pruitt’s agent at Tennessee was Jimmy Sexton and not only did Tennessee try this shite but they got away with it

LSU has more money than you know about.
There are eight local hospitals that provide inpatient care for sick infants, including those within 30 minutes of LSU. These hospitals include Manning Family Children's, Touro Infirmary, East Jefferson General Hospital, West Jefferson Medical Center, Lakeside Hospital, Lakeview Hospital, Slidell Memorial Hospital, and North Oaks Medical Center.
That is quite the cash reserve.

Idk butnif that is it, the. They’re being assholes. They knew this for a while according to here and if that’s their reason, it should have been done at that time when it happened.
You write like you went to LSU.

If this is true (and maybe it's just being used to help bring 'both' sides to negotiate), Kelly's lawyers will tear LSU up.
LSU sent him some lower lump sum payments and he wants every single penny for not working and playing golf. So LSU has nothing to lose. Drag it out and let the courts make you pay it.
It’s just leverage to get a lower buyout amount.

Al Davis once fired a coach for cause, claiming he was dishonest and lazy and did not fulfill his coaching obligations. It went to arbitration and the independent arbitrators agreed with Al Davis, the coach was rightfully fired for cause for neglecting his job That coach was Lane Kiffin
That’s the NFL and you’re dealing with powerful billionaires. They can get away with it
State funded universities with scores of donors? It’s hard to pull off, courts will side with the coach unless the coach legit did something bad like Petrino with the girl and the motorcycle accident.
Though I do think these huge ridiculous contracts should have a clause that says if a coach doesn’t meet a minimum number of wins two seasons in a row he can fired for cause. Say at LSU you have to win minimum 8 games two years in a row to get buyout. If you got 5-7 two years straight you can be fired, no buyout. It’s too easy with today’s contracts for an older successful coach to land a big contract like BK had and just not give a shite. Give minimal effort, get fired, get paid, retire. If you want a huge contract, there should be minimal standards to earn it
