Whoa ! Venables wasn't going to be "stolen" by anybody
until proven and going into the SEC , extension seems like a
real roll of the dice.
But it's only money I guess.

To be honest, this reads a lot like A&M fans with Fisher, circa 2020-2021 with his extension.

“Sumlin only did good with Sherman’s recruits and talent evaluation, he had lots of talent to work with thanks to Sherman and blew it by going 8-4 all the time. He did a poor job of roster management so he left Jimbo a pretty bare cupboard, particularly defense, on his way out.”

“Two mediocre years for Jimbo as he fixed Sumlin’s roster and recruited and now in 2020 we’re 9-1 and finishing #4, this guy is driving the program in the right direction!”……

Not saying Venables can’t be a great coach, but with only a sample size of two seasons, why rush out to extend him? Was anybody else really pursuing him right now? Just seems kinda odd.

OU lost both CW and SR, 2 QBs who were 5*’s. And many others. BV had to come in middle of recruiting period and hire new staff. And salvage a class. And find a QB. And OC and DC and on and on.

Whatever. If he wants to skip town after two seasons, one of which was decidely mediocre, then let him. He wants a big extension? Ok, he's got a bunch of his type of players, or atleast as close to it as a top ten recruiting class will allow. So show us Sooners what you've got. If it's good enough THEN you get your raise and your extension!

Was anybody banging down the door going after Venables? I don't think so....

I like this just because it puts pressure on him to either shite or get off the pot....there's no way he will be there if oklahoma is finishing middle of the pack after 2 or 3 years in the sec.

Where did I or any OU fan say he might leave? Not one said anything even remotely related to it.

He was extended due to inflation and going to SEC which pays more. And due to increasing support ($$$) for the program.

Your comment was some circle jerk other fanbases posters making shite up lol.

Brent is going nowhere. This is his forever job.

Yep, only there's one major difference. Venables is not Saban. I'm not saying OU wont be able to have a solid year, it's just a lot of key spots to replace.

Seems strange that he is getting an extension this year..
But maybe the new years aren't fully guaranteed yet..

Not seeing anything we have to replace this year so far that could be a downgrade from last year except two experienced OTs on the Oline we lost to the NFL.

His original contract was fully guaranteed. I don’t think it’s even a top 20 contract in CFB so there’s that. If he figures out a few in game adjustments his contract might turn out to be a bargain in a short period of time. Easy to underestimate the guy, but would do so at your own peril.

Number 4 on the list looks familiar. Don't pull that "Arnold will be much better" card. We all saw him throw 4 interceptions with a month to prepare for Arizona. Maybe he will be in a year or two, but not this season. Lebby is also a great coach hence why he's a head coach in the SEC now.

I'm not even trying to troll, but that statement was asinine. That's like me saying Bo Davis wasn't a big hit to the longhorns DL.

If you think some silly bowl game appearance you saw for a true freshman QB who was thrown into the fire indicates how good he really is or isn't, you're adorable.

But you don't really believe that. You just want it to be true.

And Lebby is not "a great coach" by any stretch of the imagination. He might be a good HC, but his offense I wouldn't want back here ever again. You're comparing Lebby to Bo Davis??????

It very obvious the kid has a lot to learn. I'm being realistic, you're coping. Also Gabriel will look much better on paper at the end of this year than Arnold.

Arnold was off on the timing of his throws with his WRs.

That's not "a lot to learn".

It's an athletic adjustment he'll make running with the 1st team offense and WRs.

It was throwing into coverage that caused the turnovers.

Alamo Bowl highlights

Learning to read a college level defense is a lot to learn. Kid will probably end up being a good QB, but its going to take some time.

If you suck...you get an extension.

If you REALLY suck...you get a buyout.

I love seeing successful people make big money...but sports at all levels now just throws money around like it's nothing for nothing.

Yet they lay off janitorial staff because of NIL. You don't need a high priced head coach anymore...just a couple of decent coordinators and a really good accountant.

Gotta say...I'm surprised. I could understand 2 years..maybe 3 years, but 6? It does send a message to recruits, but to give somebody that much time and he hasn't done much yet....seems odd.
