Have to agree with you. Wing is definitely an offensive weapon to be reckoned with.

I love how so many Bama fans are hating on our punter.

Has it been mentioned Wing didn't even get first team all sec from the coaches?
In fact he tied for second team

I can't believe that, unless they just went with someone who was a senior. Wing is the best punter I've ever seen.

I think he's an awesome punter, and a great weapon for your team. I'd take him in a heartbeat.
But I have to call shenanigans on the idea that he is OBVIOUSLY THE BEST PUNTER IN AMERICA, HE WAS ROBBED, ITS A CONSPIRACY...because it can be shown empirically that there are punters with equal/better statistics, AND the fact that there is no friggin' way y'all have actually seen the performance of the other contenders for AA punting honors.
Y'all want to be homerific, which is your prerogative, and then accuse people who don't share your homerific opinion of being "haterz"...

And our punter is actually pretty good, he's punted 72 times (lol) for an average of 43.6. I just can't find the inside the 20 stats.
That's because they don't track "Punting From Inside The 20" as a stat.

I'll put it to you this way, Wing stood out. He's a punter, I'm not going to notice unless he's doing some amazing things. It's not all about stats here either, though I'm willing to bet only elite punters have comparable stats. It's how he hangs punts up for so long the coverage team is there. This is also a function of LSU's general team speed, but he gives them the opportunity to get there every time. More impressive is his accuracy though. When he punts it deep, he can generally put it in whatever corner he wants to and let it bounce out of bounds. There is no chance to switch field position on a return, and a big reason why LSU's defense has been able to do what it does. His value to LSU is that of an all-american.
Dude to be honest, I don't give a shite who wins post-season awards. I do however think a lot of what Brad Wing has been able to do this year. It would be tough to show me a more valuable punter, but as you said, it's not like I've watched every punter play every game this season.

From the Play by Play of every game…
Oregon
55 yd to 3 (TD)
58 yd to the 7 (followed by return -1 yd)
WVU
41 yds to 3
52 yds to 4
60 yds to 5
37 yds to 11
51 yds to 8
51 yds to 9
UK
41 yds to 12
32 yds to 5
UF
36 yds to 2
UT
48 yds to 19
39 yds to 11
AU
52 yds to 19
53 yds to 4
56 yds to 19 (followed by -4 yd return)
UA
37 yds to 5
35 yds to 4
27 yds to 11
73 yds to 18
35 yds to 20
WKU
35 yds to 6
UM
46 yds to 15 (followed by return -1 yd)
UGA
67 yds to 13 (fumble on return, recovered by UGA)
24 yds to 15
So it looks like Wing had 25 punts downed and/or caught and returned for negative yardage inside the 20.
Of those 25:
- 20 (80 %) were inside the 15
- 13 (over half) were inside the 10 (15 inside the 11 yd line)
- 9 were inside the 5 (10, or 40%, were inside the 6)
It’s interesting to note that Arkansas was the only game Wing played in where he failed to record a punt inside the 15 yd line. Then again, his ability to limit Joe Adams to 0 returns more than made up for that.
Also, notice how many of these punts have yardages in the low to mid 30’s. What makes Wing even more impressive is that he is able to keep his average up around 43-44 yards per punt while aiming to pin opponents deep in their territory. Sure, the FSU guy may average 47 yards per punt, but I’m willing to bet due to touchbacks his NET punting is closer to 38-40, whereas Wing I believe has had maybe 2-3 touchbacks all year, and thus his net is probably almost identical to his listed punting avg.

The coaches gave it to Clark from Auburn.
With the exception of a couple really bad shanks this year, Clark was amazing. He'd probably be averaging over 45 yards a punt if not for those few terrible ones that went like 17 yards. He kept us in a few games with field position.

Powell had seven punts of at least 60 yards this year.
Forty-three percent of his punts were downed inside the 20-yard line.
Twelve of those were downed inside the 10-yard line.
63 percent of his punts are not returned.
He led the nation in both overall and net punting.
He had 21 punts of 50 or more yards.

LSUcricket,
Thanks for the breakdown. I bet that took some time. I don't see the punting stats for Miss State, NW State or Ark. I know we punted against AR, but can't remember about the other two games.
As others have mentioned, the thing that sets Wing apart from other punters is his accuracy. The AR punter had a nice avg against us, but look what happened when he got the punt to Mathieu toward the middle of the field instead of the sideline.....TD. Wing's punts are almost ALWAYS only a few yards short of his teammate downing it. He never seems to be so far away from the punt team that the punt can't be quickly downed.
The stats used to measure punting could easily be changed to better evaluate who's the better punter. For example, the punts could be based on a percentage. If the LOS is the 50 yd line and the punt is downed/received at the opponent's 10 yard line, the punter would get an 80% punt (punt travelled 40 of the available 50 yds.) OTOH, if a punt from midfield is a touchback, the punter gets a 60% punt (punt travelled 50 yards, but ends up at the 20, so he only gets a net of 30 yds). Such a system would better reward a controlled short punt that's not a touchback. Wouldn't need to break down whether a punt is inside the 20, 15, etc. I first heard this talked about >30 years ago. No reason why a better system hasn't been developed.

Have any of the other punters actually punted a ball with their other foot? Wing has. That is just a ridiculous thing to think about.

It's because the clowns who do the voting only look at one thing in the stats--the avg yards per punt.
Those idiots don't deserve the privilege of having a vote.
