I am looking forward to the day that smack talker of a punter gets skull fricked on a return. Talented, but a punter has no right shite talking when he rarely gets in a position of getting hit, and protected by rules.
By the looks of the stats it is apparent they made a decision on gross average. I agree the avg. return yards would be a much better indicator. Wing is definitely a big asset for ST of LSU.

Maybe its because they were voting for the punter, and not his coverage team?
serious comment?
Yes, he is seriously off his rocker.

43.8 < 47.0
most meaningless stat of them all since you dont know how many times they attemped to pin inside the 20 and not boom it. more downed inside the 20 by Wing negates it.

That Auburn's punter is a finalist for the Ray Guy award over Wing is a complete joke.
ETA:

Clark is averaging 40.4 yards per punt, but his value has come in his high punts that have limited the number of returns. He has 30 punts inside the 20, which is the best in the Southeastern Conference and tied for second in the nation.
Only eight of his punts have been returned, and for just 41 yards. Thirty-three punts have ended in fair catches. Two have gone for touchbacks.

He played Aussie rules football, I think he'll be fine.

Of course. I don't know WHY they don't realize that they should just fax in the LSU roster for their All America and Heisman votes

Seriously- I just think he deserved it. And I'd be saying that if he were at (for instance) Ole Miss instead of LSU....
And our punter is actually pretty good, he's punted 72 times (lol) for an average of 43.6. I just can't find the inside the 20 stats.

Not entirely his fault.

They should have included punts inside the 10 and 5 as well. Guarantee Wing wins there. Plus his average is a little low thanks to having to keep from kicking into the end zone almost every time he punts.

I think the main reason he didnt get it is because he is a freshman. Evedentally the national media was to focused on the honey beaver. Its hard to miss the excellence this guy has spewing out of his leg.

He'll just get pissed and punt an 80 yarder against Bammer if needed.

The guy gave up 6 return yards the entire season. That's wins it right there. No questions asked.

LSU opponents had 17 punt returns for 6 yards / a 0.4 yard avg.
I agree that Wing should be 1st Team All-American, but the return yards aren't the defining stat.
Wing's defining stats are:
23 punts inside the 20 (curious how many of those were inside the 10)
Longest punt: 73 yds
Also, they should have taken the TD run he had into account, even though it did get called back.
I can't remember ever seeing a punter or kicker be as well known and as badass as Wing, and I'm pretty sure that those of you who aren't Tigers can agree with that.

Shawn Powell, FSU:
49 punts for a 47.0 yard avg.
21 punts inside opp 20
21 punts 50+ yards
Longest punt: 69 yards
Brad Wing, LSU:
57 punts for a 43.8 yard avg.
23 punts inside opp 20
18 punts 50+ yards
Longest punt: 73 yards
Wing got the shaft.
