I guess the real blame goes to the AP for ensuring 75% of the years college football was played, there was no true champion. Shame on them.

Remember that time LSU had a perfect season?
Unless you're in your 70's or more the answer is no, you don't.

In 1979, No. 2 Alabama did not play No. 1 Ohio State in the bowl.

In 1964, the AP took the final poll before the bowl game. Alabama won, even though they lost the bowl game.
In 1965, the AP took its first final poll ever after the bowl season, and Alabama won, even though Michigan State, Arkansas, and Nebraska had better regular seasons.
Does this sound fair to anyone? One season, Bama gets the NC based on one set of criteria. The next season, Bama gets the NC based on a completely different set of criteria.

the lsu obsession with alabama on this site, from the top on down, is borderline creepy. just accept that alabama is historically better than you, is currently better than you, and will remain better than you long into the future, and you will be much happier

someone awarded those titles back then, and that was the system in place.
The year that Pat Sullivan won the Heisman, it was before the Iron Bowl, and with the way that it's being awarded now, with one bad game you're out he would not have won, because he was terrible in the Iron bowl.
So things were just awarded differently back then, and it's like in school, you go by the catalog that you came in on.

It says more about where Alabama is as a program than anything. Take it as a compliment.

One small problem with your logic, when Pat won the award days before the IB, it completely took Pat's and Auburn's focus away from the IB. Bama may still have won, but it was a reason he played so poorly..

He played so poorly b/c days earlier he had been acknowledged as the best player in CFB that season? That makes no sense. Granted, this was all before my time and you may have first hand recollection of it.

Or it speaks to the fact that this site was spawned off an LSU site to keep bamatards off of said LSU website.

What leads you to believe this wasn't fair? Did Alabama implement this set of criteria? Were other teams judged based on a different set of criteria?

TD.com is the LSU site, SECr.com is the Bama site. It all makes sense now.
