If this would of happened in 1966. This would have never leaked out. I know of a certain Alabama coach that did this regularly. A persons personal life shouldn"t effect his job status.

Not reading this whole thread, and I feel for a lot of you.

petrino will be taking a new position as the spokesman for Viagra and the AARP

Razorbacks should be really upset. Petrino was a good coach and made the SEC that much more competitive. I really feel for the kids on the team.

That is a fairly broad statement. I guess I will have to wait until the specifics come out.
I believe those ARE the facts.

Petrino is not gone because he cheated. Personally, I wish that we lived in that kind of society, but there's honestly no way that he would be fired for cheating.
He was fired for:
1) Lying to his boss and to the public. How could Long trust him, or how could anyone in the administration trust him? They couldn't. In the long run, Petrino wouldn't be able to go into recruits' living rooms and get kids' mommas to trust him. The fact that Petrino was a liar and a scumbag was already being using in negative recruiting, and Arkansas would have gradually faded as a football program if Petrino kept his job.
2) Hiring a woman that he was having sex with instead of 158 other applicants, many of whom were likely more qualified, thus opening the university up to a ridiculous number of lawsuits. Had Petrino not been fired, this story would have continued for months or even years as cases wound their way through the legal process. The university would have had to pay and pay and pay, all while enduring continued negative publicity.
That's why I said he would be fired the day that the news broke about Jessica Dorrell. That's why this was inevitable.

Ordinarily I would agree, but when you are the face of the program, the face of the University, you are held to a higher standard. Everything you do is out there. That's just a fact.
Just forget BP. Just take what all has happened. Would you really think people were talking about a NCAA head football coach? It's just absurd.

Get over yourself. There's no way Arky escapes getting massively sued if they keep Patrino. He was sleeping with an employee. I wonder if any of you twits have worked for a real company.

So Petrino was giving the option to stay, but he declined because of the punishment?

This is the issue. Some people are trying to make it out as though it was a decision of being a knight for morality.
Petrino getting fired was a complete CYA move to prevent a law suit.

Props to Arkansas for doing the right thing. I'm tired of coaches getting away with being scum bags!

Next Arky coach- Jack Crowe

As much as the Hogs are in pain now, Long did the right thing. BP is a very good football coach but a terrible human being. You just can't screw subordinates, and lie to your boss and stay employed.
