Blake Sims might be the best quarterback in Bama's Saban Era.

The guy completed 71% of his passes and threw for 250 yards. He did have an INT, but he was told to make that throw. Christian Jones dropped a 40 yard pass as well that might have been a TD. He also avoids pressure better than any QB under Saban and can scramble with nice speed for first downs.

While I was pleased with Blake, he was only allowed the intermediate and short passes. He's not even won the job yet and no he's not better than AJ was. I'm not downing him either and I'm fine if he ends up full time starter.

I have no complaints with Sims performance on Saturday. I'm pleased with the kickers, the oline did ok - just needs more time playing together to gel. I'm pissed with the defense, specifically the secondary.

Not bad points. I have to admit that after game 1 I'm much less worried about the QB situation and much more worried about the defense, specifically the secondary.

Bama can win with Sims.

He also missed some very easy throws to wide open receivers, but he and Kiffin both had good games. The playcalling was better than last year. Their problem is that defensive against the spread option teams.

Nothing different than usual. Most people beat off about the offseason ending and the return of great sports discussion when the reality is that shite threads like this are the rule here, not the exception, no matter what time of year.

You'd think somebody would have taken care of that deficiency since it's been sticking out like a fricking sore thumb for 2 years.

Isn't he a 5th year senior? I don't think his ceiling is much higher, so I'm going to go ahead and say that he won't be surpassing McDouchetat or the Ginger. Maybe he'll shake out better than Sarah Jessica Parker, but I doubt it. Not flaming when I say this looks to be a down year for the Tide.

biggest problem with the secondary is turnover. It is a complicated system to learn and the elite guys are splitting for the league leaving behind the lesser talented 4-5 yr guys who know the system. Take Collins and Ha-Ha for example both will have been here for 3 yrs being full time starters for about 1.5 seasons.

I'll start worrying about the defense if there is no improvement when DePriest returns. He's the QB of the defense and he was suspended for the WVU game. We looked very confused out there on Saturday mainly because we had two players starting their first game calling the defensive plays on the field.

And Shula was the best Bama coach of the 2000s.

One was Reuben Foster, so I can understand why.

He did fine. I love the fact that he can escape pressure. This takes a lot of heat off the Oline and is going to be an asset on converting some important 3rd downs this year. That is something Bama has not had at all under Saban.

However, several throws that were important in Bama's offense with McCarron are basically not available with Sims, including the deep out and the intermediate opposite sideline out. Sims arm strength doesn't allow him to make those throw unless it is very open. The deep play action has also been a staple for Bama, and Sims has to put a lot of air under those passes. That can still be effective, but if the coverage is good, that won't cut it most of the time.

I also feel like he has to roll out on certain pass routes because of his height. The problem with this is that it was when he was on the move that his accuracy suffered.

Alabama can win with him if Kiffin and company continue to tailor the offense to his strengths. They did a good job of that the first game.

Overall he played well in his first game starting.
