Is it?

I agree he may take a lump sum, but the only way for it to make sense for him is if it’s in the 40 million range. That’s what it would take to ensure he would have the same amount at the end of six years as he would have if he took it in payouts. The 25-30 LSU has offered isn’t happening.
I think a lot of this depends on whether or not he intends on coaching again. If he does, it could make a lot of sense to settle for a lump sum with no offset.

I make that CHARLETIN of a coach to court and drag his malfeasance though the public.Cheating on his wife ,drinking on the job,not being at practice a lot of times, golfing when he should be doing his job etc.The guy fleeced Scott Woodward and LSU.

He is saying he wants and expects his $54 million buyout. But he is willing to negotiate how and when he is paid it.

All unsubstantiated.
When his wife and he were going through issues. Didn't he file for the divorce and restraining order? But, let's just get into people's personal stuff because we don't want to pay our bills.
He may truly be a shitbag human and HC. I have no idea. But, they vetted him and hired him.
Petty frickers after the fact are the worst. It is a scornful woman soundtrack playing on repeat in Baton Rogue.
They don't have to like him. But, they do have to pay him. It is getting as bad as the AU and Harsin affair fabrication to weasel out. Jesus, just man up.

Probably should learn how to spell charlatan first, especially if you are going to type it out in all caps.

Want all the money over time? Want lesser money, but paid this second
If they did that to save $7 or $8 million, I could see it. But almost $30 million?
Give me a break, Verge

You do realize that doing something as silly as this only serves to drag LSU through the mud as well, right? Despite what Jeff Landry thinks, not all publicity is good publicity.

LSU could assert sovereign immunity, like Texas Tech did with Mike Leach. Would make hiring the next coach a little more difficult, but it can be done.

Explain how it is in Brian Kelly’s best interest to give the employer who just fired him $15-20 million.
1. He gets a free and clear amount, nothing dependent on his next job
2. He gets a lump sum vs payouts over the next 6-7 years.

It’s hilarious this board spent 4 years crucifying Brian Kelly, all of a sudden everyone on this board wants to be his legal counsel
That’s almost as funny as LSU lauding Kelly’s coaching prowess for 4 years and now claim he’s a bum that’s undeserving of his money.

Just pay him, and he goes away. No muss, no fuss

lsu has no leverage here. there is no cause. there is no secret leveraging of a clause. pay the man his money. should be no problem if these boosters have already promised it. unless...

That's what happens when you give a 60 year old a 10 year contract.

These contracts are always negotiated. Whether it works or not, remains to be seen.

Usually prior to signing the contract. That whole offer, acceptance, and consideration thingy.
