A first year law student could read that contract and know that Kelly has LSU by the short hairs.

I'd lay low for a few years and then go coach my grandson's middle school team on a volunteer assistant basis. Give back time to the local community.

What new story? Are you shocked that there is a negotiation going on?

several LSU posters stated shortly after his firing that they had settled for something like $20M (don't recall the actual amount claimed and don't care enough to look it up)

I don't blame Kelly for wanting the entire buyout. That's what the contract states and that's what he's gonna have to be paid.

LSU was retarded to give him that contract but they did, and they'll pay it, too.

Right now, his contract contains a mitigation clause, so his buyout is reduced by his salary at a new job. So if LSU owes him $54M over let's say the next 6 years, he gets paid $9M/year from LSU. But, if Penn State hires him on a 6 year contract at $8M/year, he still only gets a total of $9M/year ($1M from LSU and $8M from Penn State).

Is BK vindictive enough to tell Penn St. he would take the job for $1M/year so LSU has to pay him the $8M/year?

Why would he settle? These AD's writing massive buyouts in to these contracts are a joke. I'm glad BK is out of the conference, but despise the fact a failure is going to be paid $50MM to go away.

Lump sum vs yearly payments.

Also, the mitigation clause.

The solution is to hire Kelly back and let him finish his contract.

LSU actually does not have the money they think they do and this will financially hurt them if they cannot convince some boosters to pay for their mistake. Maybe some rich LSU loving person does want to separate with millions, but it is a horrible financial decision on their part.

If LSU does not feel some pain here, they will keep repeating their same mistakes. CFB does not revolve around LSU and they can quickly become an after thought, as they once were before Saban revived them.

When you look at the winningest teams in CFB, it is amazing how many do not even register any longer as something to behold

LSU will claim, with good evidence that the HC position is worth at least the amount previously paid to Franklin.
LSU would easily win that arbitration. Penn and Kelly know that is the outcome

LSU’s primary case would seem to be “he sucked and we really don’t like him personally so we shouldn’t have to pay him what we agreed to.”

Which probably won’t hold up in court lol

Except they don't.

The jokes just keep writing themselves.

Half of the posters on tRant believe they are financial advisors; why BK should take $25 million and invest it, and get, wait for it.... $50 million. But he can work at the same time.... LMAO.

And who believe BK is in the running for another job which pays $5 - 10 million / year. Sure boys.

Meanwhile they believe whatever was reported by some shady journalist about moral clauses being invoked -- all while secretly thinking Matt Moscona secret meeting's w/ Nick Saban will cause him to return to the promised land.

As the Bayou burns...

PS - I really do expect LSU to be back quickly, but you have to laugh at this.

I think I recall seeing as low as $6 or $7M, and that BK would agree to it or else LSU would invoke the morality clause which they had clear evidence of him breaking.

they can't afford that either - players, fans, and boosters will all march on the governors mansion with pitchforks and torches

I have no insight into what they might have on BK or the actual language of his contract but it appears that LSU is between a rock and a hard place

It’s going to go to court. Weird people that are obsessed with the story will have 2 years and content. The rest of us don’t care.

you would think lsu fans would stop and consider that maybe the sources that said this had already been settled are completely full of shite rubes, but they'll keep parroting whatever they say instead.

you should, because it likely impairs your ability to attract top shelf coaches as long as this Charlie Foxtrot continues

This coaching hiring/firing non-sense is going to have to slow down. Not all 16 SEC programs can finish 11-1 or 12-0 every season. Even for programs of LSU's caliber, $54 million is insane. Look at the mess the B1G currently has with its private equity proposal - rumor is that Penn State is one of the major drivers because they need money for stadium renovations and Franklin's buyout. Michigan and USC have put their feet down to reject the proposal, but it could genuinely tear that conference apart.
