Eric Curry was a prop 48 and had to be recruited over by Stallings.

So Teague and Copeland were the only true stars from Curry classes.

Incorrect. I'll point you to an article Cecil Hurt did for The Tuscaloosa News back in 2012. Here are some of the highlights:

quote:

Even former Alabama defensive coordinator Bill Oliver, while stopping short of giving full credit to Curry, acknowledged a debt.

“We won the national championship with the majority of Bill Curry players,” Oliver said. “That coaching staff deserves credit.“

quote:

One glance at the 1992 roster shows just how deeply the Curry influence was felt.

Almost the entire offensive lineup — Roosevelt Patterson, George Wilson, Tobie Sheils, Matt Hammond, tight end Steve Busky, wide receivers Prince Wimbley and Kevin Lee, running back Derrick Lassic and fullback Martin Houston — was Curry recruits. On the vaunted defense, the list is equally stellar. Defensive end John Copeland originally signed with Curry’s staff out of high school, though he was signed again out of junior college by Stallings and his staff. Eric Curry was a lanky 6-foot-6, 220-pound prospect out of Georgia who had to sit for a year under the old Proposition 48 rules. Jeremy Nunley, the top backup on the defensive line, signed in 1989. So did linebacker Derrick Oden from Hillcrest, at the strong urging of former UA All-American Tommy Wilcox. Antonio London and George Teague were 1989 signees as well. In all, 15 of the 22 starters against Miami could be classified as Curry recruits, as well as several key reserves.

No way Curry coaches that defense to one of the best ever.

That’s not what I said.

DuBose couldn't recruit shite, really. There were 2 NFL players on his SEC championship team, and both signed the year before DuBose started.

If anything, it shows you just how good Shaun Alexander was at his peak.

Maybe Alabama could build a statue and name the stadium after Bill Curry 0-3 vs Auburn.

Bill Oliver ran his mouth because he did not get the HC job bitter has he heck. Stallings was 1000x the Coach Curry was.

You'll get no argument from me. However, before Stallings arrived at Alabama, he was a sub-.500 coach with only one winning season to his credit.

Since 1920, the only Alabama football coach not to have a 10 win season, is Ears Whitworth

That means you were alive in Ears days.

He won 4 total games in 3 years at Alabama and is a contender for the worst coach in the history of the SEC. To say Curry was worse that him is utterly ridiculous.

It’s also pretty easy to show through every single metric other than wins Auburn that Bill Curry was a much better coach at Alabama than Mike DuBose.

Here are three reasons why UAT is so successful at football: 1) UAT has an unlimited football budget and spends more money than any other SEC member on gold-plated over the top gaudy football facilities, coaches salaries and recruiting 2) No university admissions office "interference" (also Bama is one of only three SEC schools, along with Ole Miss and MS State that accepts Ds on high school and/or college transcripts and 3) Most importantly UAT coaches have no interference from the UAT administration or the admissions office. The reality is that Bama football is only very peripherally affliated with UAT. In essence you can take the McDonald's drive-through window guy and he could win 10 games at UAT (ie Mike Dubose and Bill Curry won a SEC championship at UAT). How many games and/or championships would Saban win at GA Tech, Washington State, Indiana, Kansas et al? Saban is a "great" coach because he coaches at UAT, the last true college football factory left in America.

DuBose still had some decent talent sign with Alabama. Antonio Carter was the next David Palmer before he got hurt. Freddie Milons signed with Alabama while DuBose was the headman. People love to give these guys shite, but Andrew Zow and Tyler Watts were both serviceable QBs who shined in their senior years. Watts in particular made that Power-I option of Franchione's work - though he did have a weak arse arm, it's true.

People forget that the Class of '99 and the Class of '00 would have been considered Top 10 by any metric used today. They were highly regarded and one of the reasons why everyone thought we'd be in the national championship hunt in the 2000 season. We were dumb but we also had no idea just how out of shape and poorly coached those guys were at the time.

Just like Turkey Neck that followed him, Curry was told “we’ll get you the players, coach, you just coach them up”

He won there because they purchase talent. This isn’t hard.

If you want to be great at something you must commit. The football landscape is littered with good intentions and even poorer execution. Those who get it right reap the rewards, those who don't, tend to be really butthurt, historically speaking. Might try a little vaseline for that chapped azz.

Since Bryant only Stallings and Saban rank higher.
