Just think about that.

Some of his records

1-10

1-9-1

1-10

3-8

1-10

3-8

But yet had Bama 1 game from playing in 1 vs 2 national title game and won the SEC in 1989.

See also Mike DuBose.

What does this tell you about Bama's magical ability to bring in recruits regardless of who the coach is?

You're missing the point of the OP's thread. Despite winning the SEC in 1989 and despite having us one game away from a potential national championship with a win against Miami in the Sugar Bowl, we politely told Bill Curry to look for another job after he failed to beat Auburn for the third season in a row. It ended up working out for Alabama because Stallings won us a national championship three seasons later.

We continuously have a high level of success because we expect nothing less than a national championship.

Should also be noted that Curry was 0-12 lifetime against Auburn.

I assume an Auburn fan added that to his wiki.

And now we have Oats doing it too. Anyone who talks will face the same fate as Logan Young.

I believe you.

Kinda surprised/not surprised to see who else was pulling in top 10 classes back in 98 & 99:
LINK

DiNardo was still bringing 'em in towards the end. Bob Toledo at UCLA surprised me.

I don't think Bama recruited top 10 in the late 80s.

In 1989, Auburn, Tennessee, and Alabama finshed the year 6-1 in the conference and were co champions. Bama beat UT, UT beat AU, and AU beat Bama, nullifying the head to head tie breakers. So Bill Curry didn't really win the sec, but rather won a share of it at Alabama. Alabama was selected by the SugarBowl by being the highest ranked(AP poll) SEC team at the end of the season. However, Miami defeated Curry's Tide team and both AU and UT were ranked ahead of Bama in the final poll(AP).

Curry recruited very well. He left stallings with a stacked roster.

The 1 in one of the 1-10's was against #2 Alabama at the start of the year.

2 weeks later that GT team lost to Memphis State by 2 TDs...at home... and Memphis State was outscored 209-82 that year and was also 1-10.

Memphis State scored 28 of the 82 points they would have all year against GT who had beat Bama 2 weeks before.

Alabama ended up #7

GT was 2-19-1 my last 2 years, one of the 2 was vs. #2 Alabama, the 1 was against #1 ND

2/3 of the real stars of the 92 team were Stallings players.

No way Curry coaches that defense to one of the best ever.

RB Siran Stacy scored 4 td's and Bama gave UT their only loss of the season (47-30) and that turned out to be CBC's biggest win at Bama. But Bama dropped their last 2 games to Auburn and Miami and UT(11-1) finshed ranked #5, Auburn(10-2) #6, and Bama (10-2) at #9.

Alabama’s 1989 team had nothing on their 1986 team. That 1986 team could have been a contender.
