2/3 of the real stars of the 92 team were Stallings players.
I don't know about that. The following players were from the Class of '88, the Class of '89, or the Class of '90. The players of the Class of '90 might have signed on the dotted line after Stallings was named the head coach, but the vast majority of them were recruited to Alabama by Curry:
- Jay Barker (1990)
- Derrick Lassic (1989)
- Antonio Langham (1990)
- George Teague (1989)
- Eric Curry (1989)
- John Copeland (1989)
- Martin Houston (1989)
- Chris Anderson (1990)
- Tarrant Lynch (1990)
- Kevin Lee (1990)
- Prince Wimbley (1988)
- Steve Busky (1989)
And those are just a handful of the main contributors.

I don't regret Curry leaving at all because the man simply couldn't handle the job. He looked so tense walking up and down the sidelines. We used to call him Bill "can crack walnuts in his arse" Curry. He choked in big games more often than not.

Jay Barker really wasn’t a star in 1992, unless I’m really mistaken. He had a good year in 94, but in 92, he was just along for the ride.

I mean...he was our starting QB throughout the season. He might not have been a star in the traditional sense but he was the one who ran/managed the offense.

Nevermind Bama posted a 10 win season under Shula. I'm sure we bought Tyrone Prothro and Charlie Peprah....

Jay Barker's only job was not to turn the ball over in 92. Eat the sack and we will punt, it is fine because of the defense. Those were his main instructions and it is what he did.

Does that put LSU on the same level as Bama since they've done the same with Orgeron and Miles who were both quite underwhelming anywhere else?

Not really. Shula had never coached in college before he was hired by Alabama and DuBose had never held a head coaching job before being given the reigns to the Alabama program in 1997. Ed Orgeron and Les Miles both had head coaching experiencing before arriving at LSU and both men owe their success in Baton Rouge to the man who currently occupies the head coaching position at Alabama.

Kiss my arse! The Tennessee volunteers won the SEC in 1989. They beat Auburn head to head!

Saban is definitely the GOAT and brought LSU's program out of the wilderness to elite status.
Alabama was extremely fortunate to land him, his coaching run has been nuts.

I hated Curry, but you win the debate on his recruiting. This was outstanding player evaluation and recruiting by Curry and his staff. That is an impressive list.

Pretty sure Curry was also a combined 0-13 vs Auburn at GT, Bama, and Kentucky.
How on earth do you not win at least once when playing a team 13 times? You would almost have to try to lose that many times

I mean, two of those programs are Kentucky and Georgia Tech.

The 1 in one of the 1-10's was against #2 Alabama at the start of the year.
There is absolutely no way that Tech team should have been anywhere near Bama in that game.
The Tide game into that game having won 45 of their previous 49 games (a .918 winning percentage) and would win 13 of their next 15 until Johnny Majors' Volunteers finally broke the stranglehold Bryant had on the rest of the SEC.
The Jackets, OTOH, had won only 5 of their previous 25 games and would go on to lose 10 straight to finish the '81 season.
Wow, had no idea - ESPN (yes, THAT ESPN) actually broadcast that game

He was able to beat Alabama twice at GT. He tied ND at GT. You would think out of that many tries he could luck out and win one of them?
I actually felt bad for Curry during the Saturday’s in The South documentary he basically admitted he wasn’t good enough to coach at Alabama. Not many coaches will own up to something like that.

Georgia Tech finished number one in the coaches poll for the 1990 season. Which means that two of his former schools won Championships shortly after he left.

What does this tell you about Bama's magical ability to bring in recruits regardless of who the coach is?
