I've heard a stat and not sure it is true, so I thought maybe you'd know since you looked up this. Is it true that without OSU, the B1G overall has a winning record against the SEC in bowl games? I know OSU obviously counts and they are one of the B1Gs best of all time, but I heard that recently and had no idea

Perhaps. I dunno. It's possible. I can try to look it up.

In bowl games the SEC is 42-25 against Big 10 ... so could OSU's losses to the SEC in bowl games make that much of a difference in the overall record? OSU is what, 0-9 vs the SEC? 1-9 if you count the vacated win in the Cotton Bowl?

And to your earlier comments, if you're telling me being cold doesn't have anything to do with how a southern team plays then I want you to take a look at the 2009 Champs Sports Bowl if you have an hour. Wisky vs. Miami. It's entertaining to see how the 50 degree weather impacted that game.
Just a few examples: During the week the teams went to the zoo, and all the Miami guys were in sweats and the Wisky guys were in shorts and t-shirts with flipflops on
Before the game: Wisky came out for warmups in shorts etc. Miami tried to do the same to act tough, then multiple guys went back to the lockerroom to put more layers on
During the game: Miami players had handwarmers and heat lamps on the entire time...Wisky had neither
I know Miami doesn't play in the SEC, but no one on here should deny they have the "southern athlete" on their team. I mean 80% of their team is from Florida and probably 70% is from south Florida

Florida wouldn't have had that problem

I mean USC is legit this year, but I would love to see more bowl games in the north. You can do them in stadiums where there is still stuff to do. Why not do a game in Denver and you can have fans come in and ski for a few days before/after. I mean would having a game in Idaho where you can go ski the weekend be worse than having a game in Nashville one year?
And for the record, I like Nashville but I think it would be fun to play football in natural conditions. No one bitches when the NFL plays the AFC title game in New England at the end of January

I live in Ohio now but was born in GA and previously lived in TX. I haven't been through too many 95+ degree days here but there were plenty of 35-40 degree days in Georgia, which is usual November mid afternoon weather in Ohio. Cold wouldn't be as much of a factor as B1G fans think, but I can't see a B1G team doing too well in a noon September game in an SEC stadium. Playing in 95 is worse than playing in 35.

Depends on the place, but yeah, Denver wouldn't be bad. I know they have a bowl game in NYC (which is kind of cool, TBH).

I don't think the cold would dramatically change a game, but I'd just be curious on how southern teams handle different playing conditions.
Posted on 8/8/13 at 9:03 am to KillerNut9
It would only bother some of them on the sidelines. When you're on the field running around in full pads, 40 degrees doesn't feel bad at all. I played in a freezer bowl game in high school where it was 11 at kickoff and wind chill around 0. That shite sucked, but 40ish is fine.

The only thing with an Ohio State home and home is that I'd prefer for the SEC team to visit Columbus in November. Want to see how they handle the cold.

Your not talking about 0degree weather in Nov...
Avg daily high-low Columbus Ohio...
Nov.1...59H - 40L
Nov.15...55H - 37L
Nov.30...49H - 33L
Athens Ga....
Nov.1...67H - 46L
Nov.15...62H - 42L
Nov.30...58H - 39L

In my head it isn't the "cold" as much as it's also the freezing rain and potential snow. B1G teams, in the past, were built differently. They were build with huge RBs and O-lines to run up the gut for when it was too cold to properly grip the football and throw it around 30 times a game. I agree that it isn't often snowing during games in college, but I remember sitting at an OSU/Iowa game in 2004 or 2005 and man was it miserable. 32-38 with freezing rain for 4 straight hours...god

Sitting in the seats, that shite is the worst, IMO. Then combine it with 20 mph winds

The past two Novembers were actually warm for the past couple years, but always around thanksgiving it has been got pretty damn cold out of nowhere. I know my last 2 years at Ohio State for the Mirror lake jump during Michigan week it was snowing.

There's just not that much different in Nov. between SEC states & Ohio, certainly not enough to give Ohio st any type of real advantage.... I'll give you late Dec.,Jan etc...FWIW, we have sleet, freezing rain & below freezing temps down here too in Nov...

You're welcome.
With regard to weather and football games, true football players play well whatever the weather - but, without a doubt, it is far less taxing on the human body to play in the cold than in the heat.
With that stated I've been to games in the Shoe in October and November. The coldest one I can remember was actually in October of '93 I think it was, versus Michigan State. It was raining and sleeting - y'all almost lost that game to a not very good MSU team. MSU's kicker was on that day and kicked a bunch of FGs. Hoying threw several interceptions in that game and OSU fumbled the ball away a couple of times as well. (Weather related, affected the Buckeyes IMHO.) The endzone I was sitting in, (was under construction of some kind - although we were in the tunnel where the team ran out of and I was so close to John Cooper that I could have reached out and touched him), that day was opposite the big Wendy's scoreboard and the sleet was coming down sideways and hitting us in the face all game. It actually turned cold, suddenly, about midway through the 1st qtr and no one was prepared for it. It was not a well-played game.
I was also at the '96 OSU vs Michigan game when Michigan ruined the Buckeyes' perfect season attempt. It was cold that morning. We all dressed warm for the game which started at noon if I remember correctly. We were tailgating near this parking garage in a big lot not far from the stadium. Sun was shining and it actually turned warm during the game and we were all pulling-off our jackets and in sleeves. That was a helluva game though.

Agreed, but I think less 'weather' mistakes happen on a hot day.
USCe may well beat OSU this year, but we may not get to see that game no matter what, unless both go undefeated, although I guess Cap 1 and Outback are possibilities, but OSU fans may jump off a building if they ended up in those games. OSU fans are in a national title or bust mood, and I'm trying hard not to drink the kool-aid

Couldn't the reason to be "wow, if I go to Wisky or LSU, I get to play in Reliant and at LAMBEAU FIELD when I'm at school, and that's pretty cool."
No, Wisconsin was adament that it be a neutral site series. That's what took so long...to get an agreement worked out with Lambeau. Wisconsin was willing to do a deal but it had to be somewhere other than Baton Rouge, and LSU said that they would do neutral if Wisc would also give up a home game to a neutral site, and Lambeau is really the only viable option in the state of Wisconsin for major college football outside of Camp Randall.
LSU does want to get into the state of Texas to battle A&M for recruits, partuclarly in the Houston area. Playing at Reliant is not a selling point. Reliant is not a dump by any means, but it is a blah stadium.

To be fair I'd be kind of bummed too. 2 solid programs known for having great atmospheres and they only agree to play in nearby pro-cities?

If it were me not only would I want to play the game in Columbia but I'd also rather see them play @Wisconsin, not Lambeu.

Yers. i do believe it was an Ohio State player who was quoted on saying that he was totally unaware of the existance of Mike (Mike IV at the time i think) and was shocked when he walked out of the locker room and saw Mike in his cage.
