It’s true, don’t appreciate being called a liar, and definitely think you have seen that on trucks or cars.

Either way the OP question is about big brother / little brother and ATM is the epitome of that relationship. I don’t care about much ATM related until November, your university throws horns down year round when playing other opponents, wears horns down shirts, has a horns sawed off drone show on 4th of July WTF, I could list numerous other examples.

Ask yourself this, have you ever seen a Texas student put their thumb down in any way to mock ATM? No, because it’s stupid and we do not care about ATM the way ATM obsesses about UT.

A truly successful big brother would never let little brother out of its shadow. 5 nattys is probably more than all the other little brothers combined.

From 2009 - 2012, the National Championship never left the state of Alabama.

From 2008 - 2018, Someone had to beat a team from Alabama to win the title.

That's Big Brother/Little Brother dominance.

I'm sorry but you are wrong. We care as much about what they are doing as they care about what we are doing. It's a true rivalry.
Go to any Texas message board and you will see several threads about the Ags on the front page. The more our fans try to convince everyone that they aren't a rival, the more it's clear they are.
I don't understand why it's so hard for Horn fans to admit this. It's a rivalry. We are obsessed with what each other is doing. There's nothing wrong with that. It's one of the things that makes it a great rivalry.

How can you bring up Harvey Updyke, and with a straight face, act as if it helps the auburn argument...

I guess he still lives rent free, thanks for reminding everyone!

Now, if we can just get the Cajuns to admit the same for TAMU.

Never said it wasn’t a rivalry, 100% agree ATM is our rival.

However, Texas fans are not nearly as obsessed with ATM. There’s a difference between acknowledging a rivalry and one fan based being obsessed with the other which goes towards the OP point of big brother little brother

Agree to disagree I guess. I think our fans are every bit as obsessed with them as they are us. Especially when you consider the number of horn fans that post trying to convince everyone that it’s not the case.

Going to agree to disagree here.

Message boards to me do not tell the full story as obsessed.

Would you ever see a drone show sanctioned by UT with anything to do with ATM? No, especially when we didn’t play them.

Would you ever see mass quantities of longhorns purchasing anything to do with atm with the attempt to troll or make fun of? No, and it nearly the extent as Aggies do with the longhorn logo.

Would you ever see longhorn fans doing any type of signal to show trash talk to atm even when we are not playing atm in a sport event? No you would not.

Ask a Texas fan who is their rival? They will say OU.

Ask an Aggie - guarantee they will say Tu, sips, or some other dumb name for Texas.

All the above is what atm does and not Texas fans as a whole

Sure, and Carolina fans claim their rival is duke, fsu fans claim it’s Miami, but we all know unc/state fsu/Florida and Tex/atm

UCLA really isn't little brother. Maybe in football, but it has more overall national titles than USC, dominates hoops and is the #1 public university in America and rated higher than USC.

You left out Ole Miss-Miss. State

I’m going to agree with 80% of your take, and I am laughing at the aggy “saw ‘em off” 4th of July drone show. Where I differ is that I pretty much consider okie and aggy equal Texas rivals. I had aggie cousins and friends in South Texas where I grew up, and we would always give each other shite. I did not personally know any OU fans down there.

You’ll hear it all the time from Texas fans:
“We don’t even think about A&M.”
“They’re not our rivals anymore.”
“We’ve moved on.”

And yet...

Every time A&M loses a game? Longhorn Twitter is suddenly alive and thriving.

Jimbo Fisher’s contract was national news, but no one broke it down quite like a Texas fan.

“Aggy” memes? Posted by Longhorns more than anyone else.

Any time A&M gets a 5-star recruit, you’ll see threads on Orangebloods or Horns247 analyzing how NIL “must have” played a role.

Some of y’all even follow TexAgs just to screenshot posts and bring them back here for laughs.

Let’s not forget: Texas fans rushed to the message boards when the Aggies lost to App State like it was a national holiday.

If that’s not obsession, I don’t know what is.

Don’t get me wrong, Aggies are guilty of the same. We’re all tribal creatures. But Texas fans pretending they’re above the rivalry is like a guy constantly stalking his ex on Instagram while swearing he’s over her.

Let’s just call it what it is: Mutual obsession.
And honestly? College football is better for it.

I don't think you can really compare "interstate" and "intrastate" rivals directly. because they have completely different dynamics.

It is okay to have both. They are both unique.

And for those schools that have an instate rivalry with a private school... such as USC-UCLA, Carolina-Duke or FSU-Miami... those even have a different dynamic than the typical in state "state" school rivalry.
