Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby alleges conference media rights partner ESPN conspired to damage the league by luring Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC as detailed in a cease and desist letter sent to the network on Wednesday. Bowlsby also tells CBS Sports that ESPN has actively engaged the American Athletic Conference (AAC) to pursue "3-5" Big 12 members join the league, suggesting it would be rewarded with "future television proceeds".

The letter alleges ESPN "has taken certain actions that are intended to not only harm the Big 12 Conference but to result in financial benefits for ESPN." The network currently shares Big 12 rights with Fox.

This is exactly what happened to the Big East.
I’m glad the Big12 is putting up a fight.

[Bowlsby] added: "I have every expectation that Oklahoma and Texas will do whatever they can to not meet their [contractual] obligations. That's what they've done so far."

This has to be the greatest off-season ever.

Then they’re going to find themselves meeting with the SEC.
And I don’t mean the athletic conference.

ESPN/Disney/etc. are beginning to stink to high heaven.

Interesting. I wonder if there’s precedent for the Big 12 to actually go after ESPN. Though I guess it’ll be a moot point if/when the Big 12 dissolves and it’s members all move to new conferences anyway.

ESPN is losing a frick ton of subscribers because people are tired of politics in every other story. So their solution isn't to change their content. It's to buy up all of the products and force everyone who wants to watch sports, watch them

Beginning? They have been fricking up sports, entertainment and anything else they touch for many years. America hating communists on one side, and greedy frick everything up to “get theirs” on the other.

Hadn't even thought about ESPN using their sway with the AAC to force the big 12 into dissolution. Which actually still makes complete sense to do if it costs ESPN less than 150 mil. I hate Disney

I called it last week that ESPN would pay the exit fee for Texas/Oklahoma to leave sooner because they would make more money off the current contract.

That's kinda a half truth, Cable TV by in large have been hemorrhaging customers for years. People are tired paying 250 dollars and only watch 4 main channels. I get everyone wants to say "they getting to political" but it's of a more to a shift to specialized streaming platforms.

ESPN is a very small % of the Disney umbrella. I love Disney, Nike, and Facebook for money I make on their stocks and Call options.

I don't disagree with you but that has nothing to do with the inevitable lawsuit that your University is about to face. If we can believe your President, I can't, I cannot wait to see his right hand raised on a Bible and tell us the truth about ESPN and the move to SEC.

Don't get me wrong. I welcome UT and OU but I'm damned happy if Big 12 can bring down ESPN. frick them in Court.
