I was listening to sports radio on my drive home yesterday and Mike Griffith, who covers UGA, said that UGA will be the best secondary Alabama faces all year when they meet in the SEC Championship Game. I was taken aback because I just assumed it was LSU. What is the general consensus here? Is Griffith just being a homer or is his take valid?

LSU. We are the best. Even though we got shredded we are awesome.

LSU definitely has better secondary than UGA. DeAndre Baker may or may not be better than Greedy, but LSU has the best overall secondary- it's not close.

LSU probably better overall. But anyone who has watched all of Georgia’s games the past two year knows that Deandre Baker is the best DB in football.

UGA has the best player in Deandre Baker, LSU better overall secondary though. UGA is rather weak at the other corner spot, we picked on him all game.

UGA has the best player but LSU is better in total.

OK. Thanks for the answers. Knew Baker was amazing but I just haven't seen much of UGA this year.

Yes, TYSON CAMPBELL is our freshman CB but highly touted. He has had a rough go of it this year but will likely develop into a top player - most freshman don't sniff starting their freshman years. Right now, Tyson's biggest problem is just turning his head to play the ball - he rarely gets beat badly but he is too often a walking/talking PI penalty waiting to happen.

Griffith isn't a homer. Not in the least

He's an idiot, though.

The AJC likes "hot takes" on the cheap. Welcome aboard Mike Griffith. You're the new Terrence Moore.

Campbell is currently benched for redshirt freshman Eric Stokes.

Stokes has played well when called. This will probably stick for the rest of the year (minus the GT game maybe). Stokes appears to be much better in coverage.

We will have to see how he does tackling

Put it to you this way, Burrow had a career day vs UGA.

Burrow's stat line for the game didn't look that great when I checked it out. I thought you ran all over them.

Reasonable minds can disagree about who has the best. I'm not so sure Delpit doesn't end up better than either one. All three will be first rounders.

Campbell got benched in the Auburn game and Eric Stokes played much better. I think Campbell had the talent to be good, he just need to work on his ball skills.

LSU has the better defensive backfield, though. Our safety play has been spotty this year.

UGA likely has a better pass rush though. Something LSU didn’t have. I would think UGA with a better Offense can put together a better challenge than LSU did.

UGA has 14 sacks all season compared to 22 for LSU.

Sacks don't always equal pressure but that's an amazingly low number. Kirby has always been a little more risk averse and less apt to blitz as a result. He usually relies on his front to get to the QB without bringing extra men.

This is the correct answer

We have a bend but don't break defense. IMO, we do not match up well with Bama's offense (does anyone?)

No. LSU's is better. No question or argument. Our secondary has not been bad. At times it has played very well. But at times they look completely lost. I do think we have seen some improvement, though.

But, no question....LSU has the much better secondary.
