Yes he was. I don't normally care about such things, but he was certainly deserving.

Ok, they departed in a polite and orderly fashion, about midway through the third quarter...

Hard to run when your head is hanging that low.
That dang stadium sure was empty in the 4th quarter. So many people missed seeing LSU’s only touchdown.

Another LSU coach who is underappreciated? Les Miles. It isnt his fault he came along at the same time as the GOAT .
Indeed if Nick Saban stays in the pros or never goes to Alabama we are probably singing HIS praises. He put some really strong teams on the field, that could play with and beat anyone. It should have been the Golden Age of LSU football. Pax Tigahs. BUT....it wasn't to be.

Crazy bout Curly!
If I recall- curly, hired from southern miss ( bc of farve) only to end up losing to southern miss in tiger stadium.
Not sure of the whole way the archer deal went down - but seems like Arnsparger - bc AD at Fla - when talking about his replacement at lsu - a young up and comer by name of Steve spurrier was thrown around as a candidate - and arnsparger said naw - hire my boy archer
Naturally spurrier got his chance at Fla - and we know how that went.
Not entirely sure how that all played out - but semi lsu urban legend anyway.
And as bad as curly was - and was the worst by far- the downfall started with Archer - poor dude was way in over his head.
Of course Dinardo “bring back the magic”. Recall folks jumping with pure joy on getting a bid to the independence bowl.
My lord - the 90s were enough to try lsu fans souls. Hence the reason we are so passionate about baseball- that’s all we had to smile about

The whole Bo Rein story is a sad one indeed. Not to take away from the tragedy - but also have to wonder what could have been.
And I hate going down the what could have been road - as in- one Nicholas Saban listened to some peers that dabbled in the nfl and said you know what - I’m gonna take their advice and forget about the pro ranks.

Just to fix somethings in the topic.
Charles McClendon was going to be replaced at the end of the 1978 season, but due to his being the head of the college football coaches association for 1979 (which by rule then you had to be an active head coach) LSU let him keep the job for 1979. This rule was changed by 1980.
Bill Arnsparger did not like to recruit at all, so Mike Archer was doing the recruiting during Bill's time as head coach.
Prop 48 hits and destroyed Louisiana recruiting, Mike is made the head coach at that time. LSU would not let Mike recruit juco. LSU if I remember correctly only had one juco recruit in Mike's time as head coach and he was the number 1 or 2 player in state coming out of high school.
So, Joe Dean gets the LSU AD job and wants to replace Mike, Joe saved LSU 500k a year by hiring Curly Hallman. This at a time when the prop 48 set back was working out on in state recruits 1990 range.
Curly Hallman got the job at LSU because of one reason and one reason only, Brett Favre. And Favre was a Jim Carmody recruit.
All time worst LSU head coach comes down to only two coaches, Curly Hall or John W. Mayhew.
John W. Mayhew was an ALL American in track and field at Brown. He was one of the fastest players in college football and in track, when he became the head coach at LSU he was worried more about beating Doc Fenton speeds. Doc and John Lally both were far faster than Mayhew, remember he is one of the fastest players in college football in 1906-08. This will give you an idea how fast Doc Fenton was in 1908-1910.

Dumb bama fans don't know that LSU fans always leave a game at halftime.... winning or losing.
Nice try though.

Better coach Orgeron, Kinard or any other coach after Vaught, they all suck and Kidding leaves this year

It’s because we know the transitive property of football really doesn’t mean anything. Y’all lost to fricking Vanderbilt and it was hilarious.
