Just speaking about rivalries in general here:
Texas vs. Texas A&M will never be the popular pick for "best rivalry", but I think it's one of the most real ones in the country. There's nothing fake about it.

My off the cuff ranking of the SEC’s best rivalries:
1. The Iron Bowl
2. The Cocktail Party
3. Deep South’s Oldest Rivaly
4. Red River Shootout
5. Texas vs Texas A&M
6. The Egg Bowl
7. Third Saturday in October
I think TN-Bama is the least compelling of the SEC’s seven major rivalries.
This is the rivalry a nutshell. A rivalry with zero great games because one of the teams is always down is quite frankly boring and unimportant.

But I find it hard to believe any Bama fan would pick the Vol game over Auburn.
No different than Auburn fans and uga. Just depends on the circumstances.

Florida vs Georgia isn’t comparable to RRR

If OU was actually Texas' rival they wouldn't have let them tag along with them to the SEC. They would have let them flounder in the BDF to become the next Nebraska
It's a bromance.

Tag along? How’s whatever irrelevant conference Rice plays in?

Don’t placate me. The SEC basically butt-raped the Big 12 by jacking Texas and OU. Rarely does a conference bank 2 blue bloods in one day’s work. Neither team could have kept the other one out, and why would you even want to?
Only Aggie thinks that way.

I read the rant. I live in Texas.
My Longhorn friends never talk shite about OU.
And neither do the Longhorn fans on here, for the most part.
They only have actual hate for one school.

Tennessee and Auburn have both played bama in top 25 matchups 25 times based on AP rankings. Tennessee has played bama in top 10 matchups 11 times while auburn has played them 8 times. Besides Auburn being in the same state, Tennessee Bama game has held much more weight on the history of the two programs in games. It is definitely a bigger rivalry than Egg Bowl and Deep South Rivlary. Only two games that could be ahead are the cocktail party and iron bowl. The Texas rivalries aren't really SEC rivalries. Theyve only been played on an SEC schedule one year lol

Texas knows that conference realignment has killed programs (see Arkansas) by stripping away rivalries. The reason the SEC will work for Texas is because we now have annual games against our 3 most bitter rivalries even though some of the disdain vs Arkansas subsided in the 33 seasons we didn't play often.

It depends how you define the actual rivalry. Historical significance as you said or a hatred that doesn’t ever stop. Neighbors that try to one up the other because of their school affiliation. Or when the rivalry starts turning you have beat writers working with attorneys for phone records of a head coach, or boosters hiring a PI in the late 90s to prove the other was cheating, even getting a coach fired from their job after a couple days because he got an assistant job at one of the feeder high schools that churn out D-1 guys. That coach was also a part in creating a message board and doing everything possible to bring down the other school. Many know who I’m referring to. One that not only fans engage in but also the teams regardless of where they came from and turns into at least a few scuffles if not a brawl.
A lot of Ole Miss fans say LSU is their biggest rival, but really it’s because they know it makes MS State fans going into a frenzy. Maybe if they didn’t grow up in the state it may be viewed that way. As far as all out hatred and bitterness the Egg Bowl is probably up there at the top.

No one in the SEC is ever gonna give in to Texas and OU egos

Iron Bowl
Third Saturday in October
Deep South Oldest
Cocktail Party
Egg Bowl
Magnolia Bowl
These in my opinion are the undisputable best SEC rivalries. This probably deserves another thread but that can be done another time. The new rivals don't count yet to. these 6 rivalries are the ones that shaped the SEC since 1932
