This will probably offend some Bammers but... what do people think is the big difference between Tennessee and Alabama when it comes to being a great job?
To me both schools have amazing facilities and tremendous histories, but lack the same kind of recruiting advantage that you should enjoy at Florida, Georgia, LSU, or even Texas A&M. Don't get me wrong, Alabama is a talent rich state, but they share it with Auburn - and them dominating in recruiting is due to Saban rather than the university.
Obviously I do think Alabama is a better job than Tennessee. Alabama is just a great job like Oklahoma is a great job - not like Texas is a great job.

AL probably has more high school talent in the state than TN.

right, which is why I said:
Tennessee sucks when it comes to in state recruiting. But if you stuck Nick Saban at Tennessee I think he'd recruit at the same level

How anyone puts USCe ahead of UT blows my mind. I wonder if they even remember football prior to 2001. Maybe that's the year they were born. UT winning = a top 5 job. SC winning equals maybe a top 30. Maybe.

People are putting way too much emphasis on the last 2 years for USCe. They are just over .500 all-time and share the state with Clemson.

The expectations at UT are too high for what they have to work with. The program is in the shitter and you would be expected to turn everything around in 3 seasons or get fired.
why anyone would want to coach there, knowing that even 10-3 seasons wouldn't cut it in the long term, and that you would get fired even if you were slowly becoming a powerhouse, is beyond me.

Just curious where you would rank the SEC jobs taking your school out of the mix if you were a head coach and all 13 were open:
going by this, UT is a job I wouldn't want. Can you imagine being hungover with all that orange? Seriously though:
edit:
high expectations + nothing to start with + 3 seasons to work with = terrible place to HC at.

If I was a HC, and the job opened up now, that's all I care about. The program is in good shape, seemingly no academic or thug issues, and low expectations.
This would be a great place to HC at as of right now.
low expectations + plenty to start out with + plenty of seasons to work with = awesome HC job

I'm not sure why Bama is ranked so high of a job.
You will get chewed up, spit out and defamed unless you are a damn good coach.
It's a great job for the Sabans of the world. Not so much the Shulas.
There is no amount of money on earth you could pay me to exude the level of OCD saban has for coaching football.

football mad base with better in state recruiting than Tennessee and lower fan expectations.
there's an argument (even tho Tenn has a higher ceiling IMO)

It's pretty easy to win at bama. Every coach we've had since whitworth in the 50s has had a 10 win season. Most of our past coaches are still loved (Wade, Thomas, Drew, Bryant, and Stallings). People liked Fran before he left in the middle of the night. Most fans appreciate Shula for leading us through probation, but you have to admit that he wasn't a good head coach and he still hasn't gotten another HC job. The other coaches we don't like were either terrible (whitworth and dubose) or had some scandal (dubose).

I thought it through. I would rather live in Oxford than Starkville. That's why Ole Miss was moved ahead.
I'm sure TONS of coaches look at that when comparing the programs
