It says he did in fact coach in the SEC..
but it wasn’t a real example..
Jay Johnson should be on this list as an example.. he is a SEC coach and a NC should trump a SEC title

Schloss had a quote the other day on this when asked about our SEC record..
“Winning the SEC would be nice, but it has no impact on what happens in Omaha, and every single coach I know plays the games thinking about Omaha. We pulled Spencer because something wasn’t right. Winning or losing that SEC game isn’t important if you lose that pitcher for the rest of the season.”
paraphrased..
So yes, this list is stupid with that qualifier
I do agree with the sentiment and your argument. but he would have had to have coached in the SEC at least. And, I would think heavy leanings go to what they accomplished while coaching in the SEC.
Now, if your argument is greatest baseball coach in college....

I was never arguing for Augie to be on this list.. I know he didn’t coach in the SEC
I was simply saying that a coach has to have a SEC title to be on the list is stupid

And what was LSU baseball doing during our 38 trips to Omaha? The vast majority not a damn thing is college baseball or losing well before Omaha.
You do something I saw Texas fans do about OU in the early 2000s, making fun of them for losing nattys or playoff appearances. It’s pathetic

I forget did LSU play baseball during those 38 trips to Omaha? You act like lsu started playing ball in the 90s and even if you had and made Omaha every year you STILL wouldn’t have been as many times as Texas

you are arguing with an alter who has about 500 accounts.,. his sole purpose is to get a response from you, no matter how stupid or wrong his opinion is..
continue if you want.. but it’s a waste of time

Ron Polk needs to be way up that list. Doesn’t matter that he didn’t win a national championship. He was a transcendent college baseball coach and the first great SEC baseball coach.

Why is since 1980 important? Did lsu not play baseball before 1989? I’m confused

Okay since college baseball started being played
CWS championships
LSU 7
Texas 6
At the end if the day rings is all that matters. Participation trophies are for losers.

Gotcha so we are all basically USCs bitch in baseball, Princeton and Yale and football and ucla is bball.
Got it sustained winning, conference titles, making what is very well known as the gold standard of the sport (Omaha, final four, etc) none of that matters in comparing programs.

“Polk at 8 is a travesty.”
Polk gets impugned because he did not win a Natty but no question he was a great coach (he took three different schools to Omaha…Ga. Southern , State and Georgia).
At State he had at least half dozen squads that could have won a NC (1979, 1981, 1984, 1985, 1989-was probably better than the ‘85 team, 1992, 1997). But it takes an incredibly great team, being hot at the right time and some luck to win it all. Unfortunately for him all those stars never lined up in the same season.
He was a master at growing the game. He traveled to high schools back in the ‘70’s/80’s pushing them to create better programs, not just in MS but really all over. He published a book on the fundamentals of baseball. He was able to get our fan base to buy into baseball. The first ever ESPN college baseball game was televised from Dudy Noble.
He is the Godfather of SEC baseball.
Bertman was a great coach and is the best ever in the conference. But Polk is number 2 as he showed the rest of the conference that baseball could be an important and great sport. Before him it was an afterthought.
There was an occasion when Ole Miss promoted their head baseball coach to an assistant football coach back in the day.

Ron Polk at 8 is the most laughable thing I’ve ever seen on this site. He is the godfather of SEC baseball. Period.

Might as well make a thread on best little league coaches of all time at this point
