How did Ole Miss move up so much?
I was going to ask this myself. The SEC has its clear academic tiers, and I can not imagine Ole Miss magically sky-rocketing. In fact I think their enrollment went down two years ago.

I am not saying Ole Miss is a bad school at all. Just curious what changed to indicate such a change in its perception.

Ranking probably has more to do with lack of funding LSU has compared to those schools
Governor Jindal wanted to close all these universities in every city in La - it's not needed
If LSU is the flagship than the funding should flow to that school instead of Nicholls, Southeastern, NW State, McNeese St. If you want schools like that, it should be satellite campuses of LSU

What? we've had record applicants and now state investments. we've started some excellent new stem programs too under him. for all the SJW bullshite he's been fantastic so far. Only way he's shite canned is if there's a scandal coming up (classic LSU).

A college education is so overrated.

U.S. News put one out too. LSU is #87.
Take all these rankings, including USN&WR, Forbes, and all the rest with a grain of salt....they all use different criteria....there's not much difference between the top 10 to top 20 schools in reality, even the lower ranked schools are still very, very good.
These rankings are meant to be a media-marketing tool for the magazine or organization that ranks them. Don't take them too seriously.

Outside of stem, I agree.

The way that these are determined has nothing to do with what people assume.
Since lsu isn't in the top 5, we can assume this isn't a paid ranking.

6. UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA
8. UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS @ Austin
10. UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA
19. TEXAS A&M
But the gap after these four universities before reaching the REMAINDER of the SEC is ... just hilarious.

“LSU is the only school not ranked in the top 100” shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone

Ole Miss will be top 10 soon

It’s for advertising purposes to get more people to move to Florida

Best Public Schools rankings are out.......

LSU is the only SEC school not ranked in the Top 100
I take zero value in a poll possible made off of very little research.
A recent poll came out showing that LSU grads were ranked #4 in the SEC as highest income earners only behind Vandy, UF annd aTm after 10 years of graduation so that’s all that matters anyway!
Exactly. Not exactly WTF it is they see, but
I've seen other website rankings where LSU mid-career earnings compare favorably to public schools nationally, much less just the SEC. Also 'Best Value' universities for the money as well.
Not sure where they are getting these rankings or assumptions but:
*LSU has one of the top college publishing houses in the nation - LSU Press
*LSU is ranked by the Carnegie Institute as one of the Top 30 research universities in the nation
*LSU has one of the top medical research facilities in the world - Pennington Biomedical Research Institute
*LSU has one of the top academic centers for student-athletes - Cox Center - described as a prototype by NY Times and WSJ
*LSU has a new state-of-the-art billion-dollar Medical Center in downtown New Orleans.
*LSU has one of the top schools of Veterinary Medicine on the planet.
*LSU has highly ranked curricula and programs in: Coastal Research Studies, Mass Communications, Hurricane Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Music & Dramatic Arts, Law, Design, Agribusiness, Computer Engineering, Organizational Management, Entrepreneurial Communications, and many others.

One thing UF and FSU have going for them is that they have close proximity to beaches. They market that pretty damn well to out of staters. That’s always been the appeal of going to college in Florida

It’s funded by a lot of public money.
