And as to the comment about White -- there's a reason that Donovan's last team was a preseason Top 10 team. White inherited a young, really talented team that just needed seasoning. He couldn't have walked into a better situation.

This is what getting swept in basketball looks like.

Grant's Alabama was a way better program than Ray's Mississippi State or Barbee's Auburn. None of the three current coaches have elevated their programs past their predecessors. I'd say Avery looks poised to next year.

I think all 3 are poised to next year, which would be right on schedule. The flip side is if they don't then the questioning will begin.

I'll invite you to find a link to that. We knew we were in a few years of rebuilding.

Uhh, no we didn't. Lol we're practically playing all freshmen. We will at least make the NIT next year but have a good shot at making in the dance. We signed a top 25 player, Q's younger brother, who is like a Russell freak Westbrook. Plus two legit bigs, with another big that is sitting out this year that will bring a nasty defensive presence for us. By the way numb nuts, it's only year 2 for Howland at State. He lost a shite load of seniors a year ago.

I'll preface this by saying I asked for Mike White before my banning:

I've been blowing up JJ's email.. Here's my most recent. I will continue to plant this seed.

Great move cutting ties with Barbee!

I'm sure you're getting flooded with ideas on where to start the search, and undoubtedly Bruce Pearl is probably the biggest suggestion, but I wanted to add my opinion for what it's worth.

Michael White would be a great fit in my opinion. He has SEC ties, could probably be had at a bargain relative to a Pearl type, and his style of play could keep AU competitive in the short term while he builds the program. He's young and motivated, and could be a long term option if his recent success is any indicator of what the future will hold. I'd take a long, hard look at White.

Thanks again on your recent moves across the board. The AU family is definitely taking notice at your desire to be competitive in all areas of athletics!

Now with that said, Pearl's recruiting ability will make AU competitive, or at least as competitive as they could be. I'll wait for final judgement after next season. I would love to see him make an assistant change this off-season, one that knows the defensive side of the ball.

Andy Kennedy is the best coach in the conference at scouting players.

Seriously, how overrated are these two coaches?

Still not as bad as Johnny Jones. State was seeded 12th and beat LSU by 27 in the tournament, along with two regular-season routs.

We have no right to be talking crap about anyone is basketball right now. If you can't be sensible, then just be quiet.

Did your team beat either of them? Alright then

I imagine the OP would gladly admit Jones is worse than both Howland and Pearl. That doesn't diminish the fact that Pearl has been a disappointment to this point in his Auburn tenure. If in three seasons the only accomplishment Pearl can tout is a season sweep of Alabama, which will still finish higher than Auburn, then disappointment is an understatement.

What exactly do you think people were expecting of him?

Expectations for the first 2 seasons were non-existent so no disappointment there. We expected NIT this year which we are likely 1-2 games short of, so this season was disappointing but a slight one not "an understatement"

Pearl was really good at UT....He also had Tony Jones...Steve Forbes and Jason Shay on the bench with him....That made for one really good staff.

And bringing in his son over Tony Jones since he's been at AU wasn't a real smart move IMO.

Tony Jones was the worst coach on that staff.

Shay was the brains of the operation Xs and Os wise and has been an integral part of Forbes' success.

Basketball isn't football. It can be turned around quickly. Pearl has not done that. Auburn was 7-12 in the SEC in year 3. Spin it any way you want, that is terrible.
