So you admit that OU has been baby shite soft for over 20 years? Including the years Venables ran the defense?

OU has been soft since Venables left in 2012 yes. Some time around 2012/13 Stoops stopped using all of the allowed contact practices schools are given, based on some NFL studies. The downturn started there. The Oline was the only non soft part of the team and that was due to bedenbaugh only, matter of fact he had several instances with stoops over conditioning. Once Riley took over and Bennie Wiley came in as strength coach it got even worse. 2017 was an NC year if OU had even average discipline and physicality.

Why don't you let the man coach his very first game as the HC before giving him a crown?

He might be great or he might fail miserably. As Hog fans can attest, taking a flier on Clemson assistants comes with significant risk.

I think he'll do just fine against Big 12 competition.

Don’t you know when you get dumped the new girl is always much better than the old girl

Can’t wait for them to join the SEC but sadly nobody can compete with them in B12

Last year when Clemson had no offense BV kept Georgia out of the end zone yet lost 10-3 due to a pick 6. You can rest assured his stamp will be all over the D. And his D recruiting for OU so far is paying dividends.

What happens to GA if Clemson had won that game? Do they even make playoffs? BV defenses have been stout and he has history with OU so its not like going to some brand new school and needing to win admin and boosters/alumni over. He knows all the movers and shakers already and this really helps get the support needed to excel. With brand new coaches they have to navigate all of those elelments and BV has their support already.

What proof do you have that Venables will be a good head coach?

Come on man! Lots of good defensive coaches have gone straight to head coaching jobs and had great success. Mike Dubose, Jeremy Pruitt, and Will Muschamp cone to mind but I'm sure there are a lot more.

UGA played Clemson with 3 true freshmen targets (AD Mitchell, Brock Bowers, and Ladd McConkey) and a shuffled OL as we moved our C to RG (Ericson) and put the rs fr Van Prann to C after our 4th offensive snap of the game. JT Daniels looked like the Pillsbury Doughboy with all of the extra rib protection he had on in that game (and he didn't play week 2 against UAB).

The Clemson defense was stout. But UGA was not set up to be very successful with the off-season that we had (ACL for Pickens, dinged up Washington, Knee for Kearis Jackson, and Smith was always nic'd). I think Jermaine Burton was healthy but out of shape from his off-season ailments.

I must have missed the memo he was bringing Bresee, Murphy, Davis, and Henry with him.

Two of those made a lot of money from getting fired than actually get the team to be competitive.

When LSU played OU in the playoff, the LSU coaching staff said that OU on film was about the 15th to 20th best team in the country

Lincoln Riley and his baby shite soft teams aren’t on that sideline anymore. You can just admit you’re scared to death of OU with Venables at the wheel

Calm down! He hasn't coached a game yet for OU.

Nothing too wrong about just being a fan and having that fan optimism to start a new era. Things have gone well with VB so far, but yeah, we shall see what it looks like on the field.

Recruiting seems to be going pretty well. Still early, but we're getting defensive guys like we haven't seen in a while. It's been extremely frustrating to see so many blue-chip offensive recruits and very few on D for so long. For the '22 cycle, VB turned a disaster into the #8 class without much time to do so. Now sitting at #6 for 2023 with signs that it might end up even better. Long way to go. Again, we'll see.

The general team attitude and morale got pretty weird last season. Everyone knew something was off. Players were bickering. The defense would show signs of improvement and then go back to total dogshit for stretches. The offense rarely looked like what we were used to seeing...flashes of brilliance due to talent but mostly mediocrity, getting pushed around on the line like they were weak and out of shape. Somehow, they still managed to win ugly for the first 9 games before things fell apart.

Riley got weird...suspiciously sweaty and evasive in pressers those last few weeks and completely lost his shite a couple times during games. That all seems to have changed for the better with Venables in a very short time. Again, let's see if that holds up in real games.

I don't expect OU to come out of the gate and look like they're ready to dominate the sport for the next decade. That's silly. We might talk some shite like everyone else, but that's all it is.

Lebby is new here but somewhat proven. Otherwise, our offensive coaching staff from previous seasons is intact and quite competent. The defensive staff is new to us, but they know success. I feel good about it, which is something I couldn't say as we regressed each year under Riley.

Sure, it'll be a process. A conference championship and NY6 bowl seems possible, but I won't be too discouraged if it ends up a step below that. Double-digit wins, even 10-4 would be a decent start for this staff considering the mess Riley left behind.

But ask me as a fan in August, and I'll predict an undefeated national championship every season. I did it in 1996 before we ended up 3-8, and I would hope that rabid fans of any program would do the same.

TL;DR:
We only get 12 to 15 games a year. Be excited about your upcoming season, whether you're Akron or Alabama. This shite is supposed to be fun.
