He will be stealing Alabama top recruit, Texas A&M top recruit, Texas top recruit, USC top recruit, Clemson top recruit, and UGA top recruit.

You were just telling us last year how great Riley was and how he'd dominate the SEC.
Suddenly, a first time head coach is an upgrade.
What changed?

If he’s worth a frick at all he should be able to get to the playoffs at least twice while you are still in that weak arse conference.
1/4 shot once you’re in the dance.

It's going to be funny when he gets run out of town again.

What proof do you have that Venables will be a good head coach?

He will fail as a head coach.

He's certifiable. He isn't "stealing" anyone.

I don't know. But what I do know he will do is bring a defensive mindset to OU football. This hire alone tells me that the folks in Norman are seeing clearly and serious about being competitive in the SEC. Whether or not it is Venables who does it for them, only time will answer. They clearly know they need more defense and thus it was a logical hire.

If you can't manage 10 wins in the Big12...

I'm not concerned in the slightest about him not having any head-coaching experience. With only one exception going at least back to WWII, OU has hired only assistants for their HCs, and it's gone fairly well for them. If you look at wins and final rankings since then, you'd have to say that no program has won more consistently in the modern era.
The one exception was Schnellenberger in 1995, who was HC at Louisville and had created the Miami monster. And that hire was the beginning of some very dark days in Norman.
.
Recruiting is already looking up...way up on defense. If they can get some killers on that side of the ball, and some depth, as they appear to already be doing, I don't see why they wouldn't compete for NCs before long.

OU has one national championship in the past 35 years. Why OU thinks they are the number one program in any time frame is mind bottling.

And, aggy has one national championship in it's history. OU has collected seven since aggy's one shining season.
OU isn't the one putting out the articles and polls. Sorry it hurts your feelings.

Made his name setting up an elaborate system to steal opponents offensive signals but teams caught on and started to huddle up more. Pat Forde did a column on in in 2020.
