The issue is what LSU (or any other upper tier Power 5 team) does against Ga Southern and Northwestern State just doesn't matter AT ALL in terms of how good you are. The most those games can tell you is if you actually might suck this year, which you clearly don't. It wouldn't matter if you beat them 70-0 frankly. Those are name your score games where the difference between winning by 30 and winning by 50 is really just based on how all out you want to go. For me I'm looking at the one game against Texas where LSU won 45-38 and out-gained Texas 573-530. The offense against legit upper level FBS competition looked really good in that game. Burrow played an incredible game. That game gives us some real insight into what LSU really is this year. The other two just don't. Posts like the OP are asking us to crown LSU based on this one game really, but we kind of want to wait and see if you don't mind.

This makes perfect sense, I get that, but can you also try to understand what I was saying about when Bama plays in a few blowout wins to open the season? Most everyone and the national media will just chalk it up as oh Bama is blowing teams out, they are back, they are #1 / #2 ranked again. They will make the playoffs. LSU obviously is getting attention for what they have done nationally. But many continue to say LSU hasnt played a good defense and the success wont last. Maybe thats true. But in the same way Bama gets the #2 ranking, based off of what exactly? Beating Duke, NM St., and SC? Obviously previous seasons of success and doing what bama does factor in too. I'm just saying that even though we have played poor teams, LSU has always played down to their level and we havent looked like this against inferior opponents, often because we really werent as good. So im just saying why does Bama get the benefit of the doubt by blowing out inferior opponents and not LSU ? Just feel like more people should give them a little credit. Its a totally different feel than years past with sputtering offenses. It will be a fun year to watch. (PS not trying to make an argument here that LSU is better than bama. Im sure there will be plenty of that talk come November, just that we deserve a little more respect than years past)

People can laugh all they want but Duke is a solid defensive team. They were last year and the year before and they return almost their entire defense this year.

Sounds good, but for better or worse people still pay attention to yardage stats.

That seems to rustle you guys up. Sorry?

to suggest you have played anyone with much of a pulse on defense would be overstating the facts as to your offensive output
espn fpi

lsu: Strength of Record (RK) 89.1 (7)

tell me again how bad lsu's schedule has been.

you can harp on the defenses but, lsu has also played texas who has a pretty darn good offense
