What? Not based on 8 games.

To comment on what you said, the cardinals made moves to contend for the division, I dont think we will because of how the good the cubs are, but we are well positioned for a wild card.

They are in that group of 6-8 possibles, but I'm not sold they are more than a 81-82 win team. And, at this point, they feel a whole lot some of the late era Braves teams that might put together a year good enough for the NLDS but they weren't a real threat to win anything.

quote:

Also, if you dont think the cardinals are gearing up for a monster next 5 years, you dont follow the MLB.

They'll need to get in line. Cubs, Braves, Phillies, Padres, White Sox, Astros, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers.......hell the Brewers. The Cardinals farm system is meh and they generally pick and choose in the free agent market.

The Cubs, Astros, Yankees and Red Sox are loaded now and for the future. The Braves, Padres, White Sox and Phillies have loaded farm systems and will have empty payrolls ready to spend the next 2-3 years. The Dodgers are a combination of both.

I don't see the Cardinals as moving up at all in comparison to a lot of the NL, led alone running away from anyone.

What's perplexing about not wanting to watch, what amounts to basically high-school ball, and opting for one of our two professional teams.

I don't know why people act like you have to choose one or the other. The college baseball regular season is over in mid May and starts a month and a half before the MLB season even starts. So there is about a month and a half overlap between the two.

This MLB feistiness/compassion by Mizzou fans tells me all I already knew about MU’s anemic collegiate baseball numbers: Get the right SID/marketer/coach into Columbia, and the fans will flock to the ballpark.

For most of its history, Texas A&M was the same way about hoops.

Just takes the right guy(s) in place.

You watch Ian Kinsler and Max Scherzer now don't you? In the SEC a lot of Fridays have first round picks pitching against each other. Not sure why it has to be mutually exclusive.

someone is unfamiliar with the cardinals jarring amount of front end pitchers waiting to get their shot. You may forget pitching is worth more than hitters.

They won 83 last year while missing a high 2/low 3 era caliber pitcher all year, and picked up ozuna, and holland

Also we have a few young pitchers who came out of nowhere. see Jordan Hicks.

Yea, the team I have season tickets for an organization that has more Top 50/60 pitching prospects than anyone in the history of baseball. I understand how it works.

The Braves have 5 top 60 pitching prospects (not including Newcomb who is there now). The Cardinals have 2 (not including Martinez who is young and great). Like I said, they are behind other teams in the prospect category according to everyone who looks at those things.

Sure, but the Brewers got better too, and the rotation is relying on Wainwright and Mikolas as well as a young kid in Weaver for #3-5. Not to mention Wacha is the #2 and he hasn't posted a sub-4 ERA since 2015. They might slip into a wild card, but like I said, they don't have enough to be much more than that.

For one he is a reliever. And for two, he was a 3rd round pick who steadily climbed the minors. He isn't exactly a Rule 5 draft guy who showed up from nowhere.

but the problem is college baseball is just slow and boring, and until thats fixed, you wont be seeing many missouri folks.

I don't understand this at all. Pro baseball is boring as hell to me. There is no connection between pro teams and fans at all. Any player and any team can pack up and leave whenever they want.

College baseball - hell.... all of college athletics in general are much more fun than pro due to the connection and the emotion attached to the teams.

Why would anyone be proud to be a Yankee fan? Woohoo another one on the bandwagon. Same goes for the regional teams in Missouri. Those programs are attached to your city and region simply due to money. Someone offers them more and they will leave.

My favorite program is attached to my alma mater. Way more meaning behind that compared to rooting for a team simply due to the fact that you live in the same state.

could this be because you wont have a pro team? Not trying to sound douchy, just curios if you think that plays a part.

Definitely.
We had a recent ‘brand master’/VP for Marketing and Communications in athletics who could sell ice to an Eskimo.
It’s all about promos and reindeer games.

When I compared MU’s baseball situation to A&M’s hoops history, that really wasn’t an accurate comparison—our numbers were probably far worse.
The university just has to make the commitment (they may not be interested in doing so).

No....not really. Despite not having a "home" pro team, Arkansas still gets pro games on tv and the radio.

You are rooting for laundry.

I'm rooting for my university.

After splitting time in a place that has pro teams (Houston) and doesn't (Arkansas), I still feel a stronger connection with college athletics. That being said, I still love Houston teams. Not trying to say that my perspective applies to all.

I like rooting for both.

I feel as deep a bond and devotion to the Braves as I do to Alabama athletics. Been going to ballgames with my dad and friends and now my kids since I was 3 years old. Watched them or listened to Skip on the radio almost every night for 30 years. It's definitely more than just picking a team for a fun jersey color. I honestly have a deeper "emotional" relationship with the Braves than I do Alabama (and my entire family are Alabama grads as am I now).

Heck, for a lot of the reasons you said (regional team, city's team, etc).

I also respect the fact that my university doesn't leach tax money from the state and local cities to build it's facilities.

Seems like every pro stadium gets built on the tax payers dime.
