I'm shocked when your threads are centered around A&M players

I agree, but he isn't your typical closer. We have started bringing him in to pitch the 8th and 9th and sometimes an out of two in the 7th if things get dicey. How many closers have pitched 32 innings already with zero starts?

There is only one that I can see who is close to Byrne and it's Matt Cronin. If it wasnt for Byrne then Cronin would be the clear front-runner for top closer in the SEC.

15 appearances
30.2 IP
.129 OBA
32 K's
5 BB's
9 saves

Cronin giving up those game 3 HR's by Maldonado (Florida) and Keegan (OleMiss) after being used for a second time on the weekend really hurts him but he’s 4 saves off Suggs school record.

The save, along with the W/L, are some of the worst stats in baseball.

Maybe if a team plays a long meaningless season.

Closing out a team win over multiple innings like Cronin has done numerous times is noteworthy. Byrne has done the same for Florida.

Being good in high leverage situations over multiple innings is awesome. That's an incredible skill.

Recording a save or not is not the same.

quote:

He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his team;
He is not the winning pitcher;
He is credited with at least ? of an inning pitched; and
-He satisfies one of the following conditions:
-He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning
-He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, at bat or on deck
-He pitches for at least three innings.
