Bama’s D line was the biggest surprise

I really thought Lawrence would be running for his life because Clemson’s O line isn’t elite. Bama couldn’t touch him.

It wasn’t Clemson’s o line that did anything.

I completely agree. There's a lot to be disappointed about, but for me I think that's the biggest disappointment in the game.

Turns out if you throw a ton of quick passes early on, they get tired and depleted because they can't get to the QB in time.... Who knew?

Oh thats right, everyone but LSU

Bama ran out of bodies on the outside, haven't had much depth all year and they were able to key on 92 and not have to worry about anyone else trying to rush the passer. Williams still made some plays but nobody was helping him after the 1st quarter.

The gameplan was specifically only to rush 4 due to Lawrence being very good at reading blitzes and beating them. Once we couldn't get pressure, it fell apart.

I understand not wanting to get beat on the WR screens, but Bama sat back in base defense and let Trevor have all day to throw. When they blitzed a few times he rushed his throws. But they didn’t do it often enough IMO.

Serious question: I know you guys piss out 5 stars on a regular basis but what's the deal with not having depth like years before? You guys had rotations years prior, 2 maybe 3 deep and last night you guys were gassed and we saw barely any substitutions

I think they were so damn tired from chasing Murray around. They didn't have anything left in the tank.

I thought it was the offensive line. Without Dexter Lawrence in the line up I would have thought a 4 man rush would have been easy for Bama OL to handle. Wilkins had a hay day though

I think that was the most puzzling thing all night. He had plenty of time to let those downfield plays develop, and was able to just stand in there and plant his feet for those throws.
Over and over again.

Looked soft, slow, fat and then just worn out in the end. There's no other way to describe it really.

To be fair, we replaced every DB from the previous year. Three of four of our pass rushers were injured and on the sideline and in the last two years we have missed on DL and LB that caused us to be "soft". I think that is why this year you see us loading up on all Defensive positions. Not making any excuses as I tip my hat to Dabo and Clemson.

Years of guys leaving early combined with a ton of injuries beginning in spring and fall camp.

Just goes to show you stars on linemen are harder to evaluate. Most 5 star lineman are only that because they are physically more mature and can maybe play right away, doesn't mean they will be better.
