250000 “Benjamins” is 25 mil, not 250 mil. Oof.

Bama dropped from ~80th in academic rankings when Bell got there to ~150th when he left. We’re fricked. This has Strickland level competence written all over it, but in academics.
He definitely torpedoed the rankings by doubling the enrollment to get outstate students. Its basically Ole Miss or LSU from an admissions standpoint now.
The upside is he left the campus unrecognizable in a good way from a building, upgrades and aesthetics standpoint. The campus is on par with or exceeds any school in the SEC from that perspective in no small part because of what he helped to build.
But there's a reason why when you go to Bama now you hear kids from Arizona lining up to go to a three story club with house DJs and bottle service: most of the students are no longer from Alabama or even the south.

Met a dude that was from Jersey, but went to Bama (probably ~27 years old). He went there to party. Only reason.

Bell was the LSU provost before going to Alabama. He was very much in support of recruiting higher scoring students at LSU from out of state. Since he left, LSU has prioritized recruiting anyone and everyone, and now the school has massive twerking parties in the middle of the fricking street.
Florida could do much worse than Bell. I liked working with him because I felt like he and I aligned on our vision of what the perfect student profile was.

I'm 99.9% certain that there are no University of Alabama Graduates that post on the SEC Rant.

There are a lot of Bama grads who post here. I am one of them. There are over 200,000 living alumni and to believe with 99.9% certainty that 0 post here is a stupid assumption.

Yep. 60% of the students are from out-of-state.

Bells entire premise was recruiting out of state kids from wealthy states who couldn’t get into their primary in state school.
So he’d actively target these second tier candidates from wealthy areas with the promise of scholarships so their parents could brag about it while putting criteria on it so that the minute Johnny gets a B the scholarship gets yanked and the parents are now paying $42k a year in outstate tuition.
So he then doubles enrollment, selectivity goes down which torpedoes the USNWR rankings but revenue explodes and he’s able to build like no one had ever seen with huge expansions everywhere you look.
The secondary impact is they were building $1M condos for the rich out of state kids to live in with rooftop pools and every street has range rovers with NJ or Illinois plates.
The campus is beautiful and the revenue numbers are outstanding but it’s not even close to the same school I attended culturally even if I enjoy talking with many of the undergrads I meet when I get back on campus for football or other events.
