We literally played in one last year.

There's only 6 teams that can win it anyways. Makes sense.

So using this logic why even have conferences?
Seeding.
The NFL has divisions and there are winners of each division without needing to play a championship game between NFC South #1 and NFC South #2 to decide who gets that last wild card slot.

So the 2025 SEC Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia was just a figment of our imaginations?

Game? What game? I didn't see a game. I saw one team out there prepared to play a game and another team voluntarily bend over and get butt plunged for four quarters.

Not gonna happen, but I'd gladly trade this plus a cupcake for wrapping up CFB around New Year's. The longer it goes, the worse kick times get trying to schedule around the NFL.

Losing it didn't hurt Alabama last year and winning it didn't really help Georgia.
There's no point to it anymore unfortunately.
It used to be one of the most important games of the year but quickly became irrelevant.
A victim of the mega playoff
This might make me a shitty fan, but last year I kinda didn't want UGA to go to the SEC CG. Firstly, had we lost, no playoff spot. But we won, and that's a back to back achievement to be proud of, but... it also got us a bye week in the playoffs which statistically seems to be a bad thing. I don't know. I could take it or leave it.

There's also injury concerns. A game against a high quality opponent you're gonna play your starters the whole way and the odds of an important player getting hurt right before the playoffs is a huge risk for no unpside.
In the BCS era you were fighting for a spot.
Now if your spot is already assured, you're risking a lot with little upside.

So does Kirby, Kiffin and other coaches. Bama and Georgia were beat to shite last year. Now we add a 9th conf game and Alabama for sure has a home and home with Ohio state the next two years. The conf cg have run their course.

You can have a conference champion without a conference championship game
Agree just give it to the team with the best conference record at the end of the year. If its a tie give it to the coach with the hottest wife.

Nah, it's the only decent way to crown a conference champion when you have wildly different schedules thanks to giant conferences. See Texas in 2024.

Its either expand and kill those games or stay and keep them.

Love the SEC championship game and would hate to see it eliminated.

I just don't want the cfp to keep expanding. 12 teams is more than enough. Tired of the constant expansion "debate." Decide on a number and lock it in for at least a decade.
Or we could just eliminate conferences. Heck, eliminate schedules. Let the former P4 teams just have a drawing every Sunday to see who they play the next Saturday. AI can already have all potential match up gameplans ready whether Bama draws UCLA or Michigan or Syracuse for the following week. Players could also switch teams on Sundays...depending on weekly contracts being offered. Need a top QB for the big rivalry game? 1 week contract offered to Billy QB for his services. The next week he could return to his previous team or weigh new weekly contract offers. Anything less would be a constraint on trade...plus big TV ratings for the weekly game draws and player weekly drafts.

Winning your particular conference is for the kids on that team two decades from now
So what? It will only be one of the two or three conferences that “kid” will have played in. No one cares about that anymore.
