That's the problem for the big right there.
The reason the SEC is the juggernaut that it is, is because of the region that it's in.
No amount of conference realignment is going to change that.
I will admit that Ohio state, Michigan, Notre dame have a good region for football and some history but it's just not the same anymore.
This is clearly an attempt to stay relevant and the big markets you speak of don't care about college football.
Sorry you came in second place again.
The SEC. It just means more.
Now get the frick out of here.

Yes, It was 100% retaliation…. Load up on guns, ammo, whiskey and women because a fight is brewing.

That’s all well and good but college sports are still very much a regional game. I can’t imagine a group of New Yorkers getting excited to watch Minnesota and Illinois play at 10 am

From an old guy, it is much simpler than that
B1G has been trying to kill the SEC from the very beginning. Their arrogance has been obvious for over a century
With Notre Dame in the ACC and now Texas in the SEC, B1G is just going west to save face as they have found no purchase in the south. They keep trying to wreck it and it keeps backfiring.

I believe it was multi-purposed. Firstly, it was political. He wanted to ratchet up unhappiness, pre-election. The guy is on record that he wants to use the B1G as a tool to effect political and social change.
Secondly, it was a power move that backfired. He hoped that, by the B1G leading a boycott of football, that he could position himself as a national power player. Sankey had other ideas.
This sounds like conspiracy theories to those who do not keep up with these things but this was a real thing among Big 10 schools and the government in Big 10 states. They wanted to shut everything down. I have no issues with those who wanted to do so over public safety and health of the athletes but it was mostly political. The proof in that statement is the Big 10 would not have restarted the seaason if they had canceled it to begin with over a true concern for public health.

like aggy forfeiting their bowl game over concerns Wake Forrest would make your football team unhealthy?
poor aggies

Everyone can have their say but the B1G will control college athletics when this is over.
No one who (a) has watched college football for more than one season, and (b) has two brain cells to rub together believes that.

UCLA has averaged about 46,000 in attendance during the Chip Kelly era. Playing Minnesota, Maryland, Rutgers, Illinois, etc, etc, etc, isn't going to help that, and as far as TV markets? Only a fricking stooge would believe that southern California residents are going to stay inside on a sunny autumn Saturday to watch bad football.

No one in the SEC gives a f**k what happens in those $h!t hole markets, nor do they care about what they control. College athletics is part of the culture from Oklahoma to South Carolina and all points in between.

They saw the SEC making a move they will ultimately regret and said “hold my beer”.

It has a lot to do with the PAC dying as well. If the PAC hadn't become so weakened then I doubt USC and UCLA bolt even with Texas and Oklahoma moving.

That is all well and good but that reasoning has always doomed the south. The mission of most Universities is academics before athletics. The B1G is building relations with very important partners in business, government, and media. From the beltway and the Big Apple to Hollywood, the B1G is building a bright future and setting itself up to be the dominant force in college athletics.

SEC Universities are making more money than everyone else because of viewers and fan bases. You really don't seem to understand.
Also, NFL draft day is disproportionately made up of athletes from the SEC. This isn't going to change either.
Good luck with your "playing school" though.
Which SEC team you think will kick your arse this year?

I figured the PAC would always stick together since it's the only thing that part of the country has.

So the PAC/B1G can have an intrasquad scrimmage at the Rose Bowl
