You are getting a guy who in Dallas had massive trust issues, an ego the size of the moon, and was so paranoid he banned Dirk Nowitzki's personal shooting coach from Maverick facilities. He forced out assistants b/c he thought he could do it on his own. He blamed players for everything wrong while taking credit for everything positive. He alienated every single player and damn near every single member of the Mavs organization in his brief stint as HC. He wore out his welcome so completely that he was only able to last 3 full seasons and was canned just 2 years after coaching the team in its first NBA Finals. The players had such little respect for him that most of the team went out to celebrate Josh Howard's birthday in NOLA during the middle of a playoff series instead of staying at the team hotel. He coached an EXTREMELY slow brand of basketball which artificially raised the team's defensive stats while running an offense (once he booted Del Harris) that was so predictable that teams didn't even need to change their defensive gameplans from game to game.

Sorry you are struggling with a lot of people's opinions. A Bama fan posted this on the SECRant and open to discussion. NGT and I both think it is a great hire for recognition and splash value. To say it is great for win and losses is just being dishonest and too early to tell. Assistant hires will be critical and I personally think his personality could play well in the living room of players and their families. We will see.
There has to be a sliding scale though. People do realize how horrific Alabama is at basketball, right? He could suck arse and Alabama wouldn't have any less success than they are now. It's a great hire.

At the time, Grant was thought to be a home run hire. You just never know. I am interested in seeing how this hire works out. Avery does have the name brand. With his resume, that people keep bringing up, it makes me wonder why he didn't have an NBA job. No league re-treads coaches like the NBA.

He was fired for pissing off the entirety of the organization by acting like a dictator. You can't alienate everyone and keep your job in the coaching world. Avery has done it twice now. Hopefully for you guys he has learned to not be so paranoid and ego driven.

That maybe and I've said many times that I believe his personality is suited better for CBB than the NBA. He will have full control of the program. (i.e. Nick Saban)

This.

Coaching against Billy Kennedy is a lot less daunting than going up against Gregg Popovich

Sliding scale for what? It doesn't matter how good or bad a Bama is/was in BB. Winning is what counts right? I have already conceded he is a good hire for Bama in the excitement he can bring due to his name.

Not sure what more you want from an opposing fan? Especially an Auburn fan, my objectivity only goes so far...

Sliding scale as in if Kentucky hires him everyone should point and laugh. If Tennessee hired him maybe bust their balls a little bit for the....I guess crappy hire...? If Alabama hires him maybe give some kudos. If Auburn High School hires hik maybe flip out at the amazing hire. Ya know, a sliding scale.

I don't want anything from you. Just called people hating on the hire, idiots. An Auburn fan did the same exact thing right after me.

I won't argue this.

You not expecting trolls or others that shite on this hire may make you a bit naive though.

Lets just say the New orleans Pelicans board is jumping for joy you all hired him because they were scared they would if Monty got fired. Not a good hire.

Coaching a college team is far different from coaching in the NBA, ijs

And AJ would be an upgrade over Monty for y'all. Maybe NOP would actually make the playoffs under him.

Yeah, I went there. It's like that today

I would have loved to get Archie Miller, but considering he was never really a serious candidate, my guess is we reached out to his agent and were told to frick off.

Considering what was left, I love it.

He could be a disaster (I don't think he will), but I would take a complete dumpster fire over 6 more years of soul crushing mediocrity. It has the potential to be a great hire.

That is like saying a car with a busted radiator is better than a car with a busted transmission. I don't want either.

Go away now little brother

I don't have any white guilt. My descendants were a world away, while America oppressed a people for 300 years.
