Seems more of an indicator of how absurd the price of houses has gotten.

Also an indicator that too many Californians and yankees are moving to Texas and Tennessee. Nashville is booming more than I’d guess most of the people there want it to. Similar to what happened to Austin

Tuscaloosa city public schools aren't good. You have to move out into Tuscaloosa county to be zoned for a decent school. 2 of the 3 city high schools are failing schools. Auburn public schools are consistently ranked in the top 5 in the state of Alabama.

Tuscaloosa is in the poorest region in the country. Surrounded by complete poverty. I think we are doing ok all things considered. The demographics on that side of the state is having a rough go at it all over the country and we are bordered with an equally poor state in Mississippi

Knoxville and the surrounding area used to be a lot more affordable until the Californians got here.

Didn't your HC get a quarterback from California a while back? You might want to blame it on Heupel for starting the pipeline.

Property taxes should not be a way for a municipality to make money. School districts and counties, fine. But I come from a sales tax state.

It's going to be worse with Starbucks moving their HQ to Nashville.

I'd say Columbia, MO is your best option here. Columbia is pretty nice.

My bias is obvious but that was my thought too...incredible value all things considered.

That’s the Zillow average estimated value for all homes in the city. Are you saying it should be higher or lower??

Higher.

That number is skewed by Northport, I bet.

Tuscaloosa borders Jefferson County (Birmingham).
That's one of the poorest regions in the country?

The west side of Jefferson County, closest to Tuscaloosa, is essentially a 3rd world country. So yes. Combine that with every other county surrounding it and it’s not ideal. Auburn has much better cushion around them. The only real issue is Montgomery

Starbucks is the last place I’d get coffee and their HQ moving to Nashville from Seattle checks out. That shite, like REI, got worse the larger it spread its presence across the country. Their coffee blows.

Montgomery County doesn't border Lee County. But, it's just 45 minutes down the interstate. Macon County is the only "poor" County that borders Auburn. I see your point though. Greene, Pickens and Bibb counties are not great economic counties.

Now do expected take home pay. All costs are relative to average income. The net is close to the same.

But you’re probably smart enough to know this.

Opelika isn’t far and it’s not exactly great. Go 30 minutes further down 280 and you’re in Phenix “metal detectors at the gate of their high school football games” City. And let’s not even consider Columbus.
