It’s a misleading stat if your team happens to have a great defense and gets a lot of turnovers and short fields, which Georgia does

It isn't misleading, I don't think, but I would agree it doesn't tell the entire story. Georgia still has to take the ball and go those 50-60 yards. In fact, you might argue it's harder to have a high % when a lot of it is short field, because there aren't a lot of cheap gimmee yards in there.

However, Fremau also has a stat on that page specifically for what you noted - what about when a team has to drive the field, and it does show that Georgia isn't quite as good driving the field.

Points Per Drive from Long Starting Field Position (OLD)
1. Alabama (6.00)
2. Ole Miss (5.40)
12. Arkansas (2.89)
22. Auburn (2.33)

55. Mississippi St (1.70)
98. Vanderbilt (0.91)
102. Texas A&M (0.86)
115. Missouri (0.50)
130. South Carolina (-0.20) (negative....good lawd)

PPD Medium Field Position (OMD)
4. Ole Miss (3.48)
9. Georgia (3.36)
10. Alabama (3.33)
12. Missouri (3.25)
14. Florida (3.19)
17. Tennessee (3.12)
33. Kentucky (2.72)
41. LSU (2.55)
48. Arkansas (2.36)

69. Auburn (1.97)
82. Mississippi State (1.77)

Why? What team do you think wins?

Nakobe isn’t quite as good of a player as Roquan Smith, but I can say without a doubt that he’s the best leader we’ve had in a while. He has free reign to call a blitz, change coverages, etc based on offensive personnel. He does it a lot. And it works.

The interception he made off the deflection against AU made me chuckle out loud and reminisce of the days when Bama had LBs that could make plays like that.

If he isn't, he's close. He certainly has that delayed blitz timed out like Roquan did. Much like Roquan, Nakobe is also the best middle linebacker in the country.

Yeah I agree, “it doesn’t tell the whole story” is more accurate than “it’s misleading”

It was impressive to get to see up close.

Missed a few on Nix. He must have been slathered in vaseline because one of those misses, the linebacker was totally wrapped up on him but still slipped off. It was fricky.

Have they played an elite QB yet? Or merely a good one?

College football isn't exactly brimming with elite QB play this year. Kenny Pickett from Pitt has probably been as good as any in the country.

No, they haven't played any great offenses yet. But they've played some solid ones and they've absolutely devoured every single one.

YPP vs P5

Played
19. Arkansas (6.73) (3.60 vs UGA)
47. Auburn (5.95) (4.42 vs UGA)
85. UAB (5.26) (3.28 vs UGA)
98. South Carolina (5.01) (4.92 vs UGA)
117. Clemson (4.59) (3.00 vs UGA)

Upcoming
4. Florida (7.17)
15. Kentucky (6.78)
24. Tennessee (6.52)
46. Missouri (5.99)
55. Georgia Tech (5.86)

Not really sure there is an "elite QB" on their schedule. The only truly "elite" QB in the conference is probably Corral.

Fair. Didn’t know Arky O was ranked so high. I definitely think the Georgia defense is special but not sure if it’s historically special. I’ll be interested to see them against Florida, UT, and Bama

They are, but you could argue they definitely play right into UGA's hands. Their offense is very much predicated on running the ball, and UGA is not going to let anyone run the ball consistently.

The only thing is, I'm not sure what offenses out there are really terrifying in terms of being great. Ohio State would test them on the perimeter unlike anyone they'll see. Other than that? I just don't think there are a whole lot of elite offenses in CFB this season.

I presume that you mean vertically from the wide receiver position.

I think we can ve challenged vertically from the tight end, slot, and WR spots. We havent been challenged because teams are not trusting their offensive lines (clemson's OL was atrocious. Bo Nix didnt trust his own line).

I dont know Ohio States team. The problem in dealing with the UGA pass rush is that we can scheme pressure against the weak links. Center. Guard. Tackle. Tight ends or runningbacks. If there is a chink in the armor, we will find it and make it scary to call those deep shots. If Ohio State can pass pro like Bama 2020, then they may not have any issues with our pass rush. Bama didnt have any weak links last season.
