Sounds like Alabama is harder to get into than Auburn?

It's reasonably common to hear about Auburn legacies getting into Bama but not Auburn in recent years, but that's anecdotal. I assume they're fairly similar. I think the perception in the Southeast is that Auburn is harder to get into and that both are getting harder to get into (as is the case for all flagship schools).

My understanding is that the dip in Auburn acceptance is due to switching over to some mass-application process that a lot of schools use, which spiked Auburn's application #s. But I think accounting for that both Auburn and Alabama are a good bit lower %s than they were 10-15 years ago and that will probably continue unless both scale up a lot to account for increased demand.

We're in an era where schools are harder to get into and thus you're getting kids in Dallas and Atlanta and Houston and Nashville who will go anywhere with a good greek scene/fun/good athletics/money regardless of their ties before dropping down to a lower tier of school in their own state/region.

My daughter applied to and got into Ole Miss, Alabama and Auburn. Several of her friends did not get into Auburn and are going to Southern Union in hopes of getting into Auburn

To clarify, they received 48,000 freshman applications, and 44% of those were approved during the early application process. The rest will be filtered & accepted during the early spring like every other college in America.

The Freshman Class last year was just below 6,000 students. The final acceptance rate depends on how many of the early acceptance actually enroll.

If 25% of the 44% accepted students enroll, that would around 5,300.

Where did you get 94.89% for Bama when it shows 80.06?

Their own graduates & fans aren’t smart enough to comprehend what they’re reading

Much like politics or any other facet of the real world, there is most often a small percentage towards the ends of the curve that drive the narrative. I'm sure there are a very tiny portion of extremely bright students at Auburn—and consequently at every other institution of higher learning—that actually carry the water, so to speak.

Somehow the notion that an overwhelming majority of college graduates will never have any impact on a school apart from paying tuition, which in turn fuels growth, is lost on those who parrot these types of statistics.

It's also why Auburn has arguably the worst football stadium in the conference.

TL;DR Every school has a small portion of very talented alumni. The plebs pay the bills. Auburn University mistakenly believes their self-affirmed "status" affords selectivity, which is why they're poor.

Never has been.

Having my own kids college aged along with a 1/2 dozen nieces and nephews all college age, I can assure you that Auburn is much more difficult to get into than Alabama is. Killed my brother to send his oldest to Bama, but they couldn't get into Auburn.

Much more difficult? Nah. The average ACT score of students denied admission is 18.9 and GPA of 3.2 according to Auburn’s admissions website.
