UK and Bama fans are really eating this shite up.

It's going to be a real bummer when Pearl signs a big fat extension.

We had that on our board a while ago. Or is that where you got this.

Look at all the fricking $ Auburn threw at Gus after winning 1 SEC Championship.

And I think y'all were silly for paying Gus that much then. I'm supporting Pittman's pay raise because in a few years it will likely be the median for the SEC in football as an example and its not as big of a pay raise as what y'all are talking about.

8-9 million dollars a year, even for someone who has done as well as Pearl has, is a helluva lot of money to spend on a sport that doesn't generate the revenue to justify that expense.

News:

I can report Auburn is proactively pursuing a contract extension for Bruce Pearl and that there is comfort within the athletics department that Auburn will be able to offer an extension that will allow him to finish his career at AU.

Do you think Auburn BB will only make 2 million this year?

In 2019-2020 you went 25-6 and made it to the Final Four. You made 2 million dollars that year. You may make more this year, you make may less, but are you going to make an extra 5-6 million this year from that year?

Y'all seem to think I'm mocking Pearl or Auburn here and I'm not. I'm just pointing out that y'all would be spending a shite load of cash more than what your program has brought in and that includes a very recent Final Four run.

I agree. It is a lot of $ and I don't see either party spending that. Bruce would probably be better supported by improving facilities and paying asst. coaches.

Not sure why that's funny. Kentucky and Alabama fans are really the only ones latching onto these rumors. Scroll back through the rant if you don't believe me.

Why does it matter? He’d either be at our in-state rival or in conference.

Auburn is about to start receiving a $20 million check each year with the new tv contract. Louisville ain't getting that kind of money

And I imagine they're raking in a tidy profit from gate receipts this year.

Say what you want about Auburn athletics but they've never had a problem spending money.

Why would you make that claim?

Auburn basketball has had more consistent success the last 5 years than any 5 year period in Auburn football history outside of the 1980s.

When comparing recruiting, Auburn basketball has better access to elite talent when compared to the other teams in their league and nationally than football without question.

Auburn football has been national championship relevant 4 times in the last 25 years. Auburn basketball has been national championship relevant 2 times in the last 5 years.

Auburn basketball currently is sitting in a position where they have national recognition, an elite coach, a great facility, a recruiting pipeline and consistency in winning. Auburn football currently is a dumpster fire situated between the 2 most elite programs in college football with no true route to consistently competing with those 2 (not to mention others) in the near future, with average at best facilities and going on a 5th straight year of national irrelevance.

quote:

Ceiling is high in both sports.

Football has never had a consistent ceiling at Auburn. Ever. The closest you came was the 1980s. Before and after Auburn has never competed at a Top 10 level for 4-5 year periods. Hell, Auburn hasn't had back to back Top 10 seasons since 1993-1994. The only other period that was close was 2004-2007, which was immediately followed by a collapse, a magical season, another multi-year collapse, another magical season, and another multi-year collapse.

Again, Auburn's basketball infrastructure and recruiting pipelines in basketball make them a true sustainable entity that football cannot match.

Here in Louisville, Pearl has been mentioned as a potential candidate by pretty well all of the local UofL beat writers.

It’s pretty much been him, Kenny Payne, Kevin Willard, and Scotty Davenport.

And a quick Google search easily shows this is a national story at this point.

I think I may have seen Pearl pulling into the Paddock shops to purchase a seersucker suit this afternoon.
