I'm not sure why you'd underinvest in that.

This is absolutely true, and Auburn should pay Pearl whatever it takes.

And I hope they don't.

Auburn is about to start receiving a $20 million check each year with the new tv contract. Louisville ain't getting that kind of money.

Now, every time I see a “Two Men and a Truck” headed north in I-65, I’m going to wonder if it is Bruce Pearl headed to Louisville..

Why would you make that claim? Football has made it to the Championship game the last 10 years and was a major factor in 2017. They played in the Final 4 in BB and are currently ranked #1. Ceiling is high in both sports.

Too many people just look at today's snapshot.

At least for the foreseeable future, I think so as well and personally I’m fine with that. Probably because basketball is/was my passion, my best sport and the sport I had the most success in, although I do love football also.

Oh absolutely. Ceiling could raise for football in the future but from what we know now, it’s lower than it has been in a while. Mostly due to the strength of other teams in the sec.

We do, but we all realize it means nothing except to historians in today's game.

If Louisville is willing to offer Bruce Pearl Saban type money then Auburn should wish him a fond farewell on his way out the door.

Auburn is doing great this year. It really is a magical run for them. But basketball is the 4th most popular sport at Auburn behind football, more football, and even more football.

If they offer that type of money, he should jump ship. Don't even wait till the end of the season to get on that gravy train. Auburn, however, would be foolish to spend that sort of money on basketball.

And before people get all up in arms... unless he was coming off a 4 peat of National titles I would say Arkansas would be foolish to spend that type of money on a basketball coach as well.

It wouldn't be foolish. I think some people have figured out the two sports can co-exist. When they are both doing well they feed off each other.

Basketball is a close second now to football. If you don't believe that, then you haven't been paying attention.

That is very nice but is it generating enough money to warrant that?

The year before COVID Auburn basketball made a 2 million dollar profit. That is pretty good I grant you. Arkansas scrapped by with a paltry 11 million dollar profit that year in basketball in comparison.

So, Bruce Pearl makes about 4 million a year. Nick Saban makes about 9 million a year. That would require you giving him a 5 million dollar a year raise. During a perfectly normal year you'd be losing 3 million bucks a year paying for a coach that has yet to win a national title.

That... seems like a heck of a bargain there.

You want to spend that sort of money. By all means, go right ahead.

Look at all the fricking $ Auburn threw at Gus after winning 1 SEC Championship. Pearl has won two and played in a Final Four. It's not just about ticket sales. A high profile basketball program will bring in $ from everywhere.

And I'm not comparing Pearl to Saban because Bama has been great before, (and for a lot of resasons) but Saban's success has had huge impacts on the University in many ways. Pearl's success in basketball will do the same.

I may be wrong, but I interpreted his post as saying Bruce should stay at Auburn because of what he built and Loserville (Louisville) can sink.

Do you think Auburn BB will only make 2 million this year?
