Are you talking about stepping in the seal and you won’t graduate in 4 years? It’s just a fun tradition. Take it easy. Nobody takes it seriously.

And baptizing yourself in a fountain at the president's house to remove the curse.

Oh, and having your class ring cursed and having to get it baptized in a ceremony at precisely some predesignated minute to remove that curse?

Surely you see how that seems cultish?

No. Thompson's not that good. He shouldn't have been a 5* to begin with. Maybe Freeze will make him good some day, but thinking he and someone like Cam Coleman should have the same evaluation rating is dumb. There's a huge gulf between the two of them. Coleman is a huge talent.

Honest question: Why does this matter? Unless the guy suffered a serious injury, did he all of a sudden become less talented?

Or are you guys just trolling because you have a star fetish? It seems pointless to me.

I’ve never heard of those. Maybe the didn’t let me in on the cultish stuff while I was there.

I'll be honest, I don't know of many older AU grads who know about the ring thing, but the university isn't shy about telling you about it nowadays. It was a decade ago when I heard about it, but I looked on auburn.edu, and they still offer a ring baptism before graduation every semester.

Cynical me says that the Josten's rep had some blackmail photos of Aubie or something.

Y'all don't seem very connected to your school.

quote:

Part of the Auburn Ring Tradition is Ring Night Celebration. Where students receive their ring, curse their ring by tapping it to the Auburn Seal, and cleanse their ring with water from the President’s fountain

To learn more about what these events entail, dates, and more visit the event page.

That's straight from the website of your alma mater. Maybe you guys should visit the place more often.

At least for the rings, they bring the baptismal fountain waters to the ceremony. The poor souls that step on that thing have to go skinny dipping all the way out at the president's house.

The Ring Ceremony, a UA tradition held each spring

quote:

UA students and alumni who order official class rings and choose to participate in the ceremony will first have their rings placed in the 115-foot tall, 92-year-old bell tower for 24 hours.

quote:

According to tradition, the rings become “infused with the UA spirit” during this time. On April 4, the UA ROTC will place a large mahogany box filled with class rings inside Denny Chimes, where the rings will remain, guarded by the UA Police Department, until 6:31 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5. The time is significant because it translates to 18:31 in military time; 1831 is the year of The University’s founding.

quote:

Then, the rings will be retrieved from Denny Chimes and transported to the conference center for the second part of the Ring Ceremony, the presentation of the rings at Bryant Conference Center on April 5.

They started it after 2000. Didn't exist when I graduated in 96.

And Alabama does the same fricking thing

True, but we haven't jumped on the curse bandwagon.

At least we exorcise the curse with a baptism
