The irony in all of this is the amount of trees that were cut down for all of that toilet paper.
Updyke should have used that for his defense.

Why the hell don't they call Disney and get the architect who sculpted the tree of life at Animal Kingdom to make a realistic sculpt of a tree and like the one at Disney has animals and shite in it (sculpted in the bark) they could do past Auburn games or players
Someone should make this happen
Someone should make this happen

As an LSU fan, I'm sorry to see the tradition go, but my issues mainly stem from the fact that he actually poisoned the trees. What's stopping a scumbag like that from doing the same thing to LSU's beautiful oaks, or trying to hurt Mike the Tiger?

Nice picture, and thanks to all non-Auburn fans for paying respect.

Trees can not eat their antagonist, while Tigers can.

like 4 of the 5 landscape architect proposals didn't include new trees there. They all included redoing the corner to feature the Auburn University gates.
That is stupid. You guys throw TP in a tree, its stupid, but its a tradition. So, on bat-crap crazy Bama fan makes you guys change the entire tradition?

It's sad to see those trees die, but they'll transplant some that are already acclimated to that particular climate and the tradition will live on. While I was in college, I was working (as an electrician) on a huge house and they had 6 massive oaks brought in and planted around the house. They were brought in on huge tractor trailers and put in place with 300 ton cranes. I'd imagine AU will find some awesome/appropriate replacements.

Cool tradition, Auburn. Absolutely amazing turnout. Updike is a complete fricko for doing what he did.
Now go do something less Big 12ish. TP-ing trees, really?

Plans are already made to replace the trees.

All schools have odd traditions to those not associated with the school.
It's really a shame that a fan of a rival team would poison innocent trees to somehow make himself feel better. That is a sick individual.

The renovation will be impressive, up to $2 million. Lot more than new trees.
Also,a quote about how long the tradition has been around. Celebrating at Toomers after a big win has been going on since the 1940's. The trees have been being rolled since the 1960's. It is a tradition of generations of Aubies, hence the turnout.

Celebrations at the Corner have been going on for as long as there was a football team, but no one knows the exact date of the first rolling of the intersection.
Dr. Alley W. Jones, head archivist for Auburn University, remembered one particular celebration as a student when Auburn upset Alabama 14-13 in 1949, but couldn’t remember the year rolling was first established.
“I remember everybody that was here in town went up to Toomer’s Corner,” said Jones. “They hooped and hollered and carried on, but I don’t remember any toilet paper. The rolling of it came alter, but I can’t tell you when.”
Neil O. Davis, former owner, editor and publisher of The Auburn Bulletin and former journalism professor at the University, is slightly more specific in a date for the beginning of the rolling tradition.
“That was not until the 1960s. There were always pep rallies and celebrations there, but the throwing of the toilet paper came later.”

Saw that. Probably will continue late into the night and even tomorrow until people leave town.
Thanks for the pics and the renovation info also.

What is more impressive is that this many crowded into a small area after what happened in Boston on Monday. Americans are not easily intimidated.

Sad to see them go. Unlike some in this thread, I can understand why people are upset about a long lasting tradition being taken away by some a-hole
