Clearly illegal play on SEC Website

Announcers and special guest who was once an official are like "oh, well"

Thing is it would have made it a 17-14 game with 1:30 left to play.

Now a lot of plays happen in a game and Auburn could have scored. But then they could have had a false start or a turnover.

What I would like to see are the grades of the two officials who stood there and watched.

I see an Olineman falling and grabbing someone to try to right himself ;-)

Pushing the QBs on sneaks or cleaning up the pile or literally pulling the RB forward should be illegal

That was on first down. So you just assume Auburn wouldn’t have gotten the touchdown?

No. He is assuming that Auburn would have gotten no points out of that drive and that the rest of the game would have played out basically exactly the same way.

I mean damn, we pissed away enough points in that game and he’s trying to take more.

No, it wasn't on first down. It was a second down play (fumble just before it). So it would have been third down afterwards. And let's not pretend the Ole Miss defense didn't have any goal line stops in the game. Auburn may have had to settle for another FG or they may have punched it in. But that call has to be made.

So does an obvious facemask on a qb that ends a drive, yet here we are.

It was a missed call. No doubt. I actually did not know it was not allowed until I saw it on TV today. I was at the game last night and everyone was laughing at the Suplex, Tega put on him.

Lots of missed calls but last night was a pretty good called game. A few misses on both sides but overall, they let them play.

All penalties are listed starting on page FR-131 here.

Which penalty should be called?

I found no rule against it in the book. Announcers probably just assumed there was. One of those things you look at and think, "surely there's no way that's legal." But when they eliminated the rule for helping a runner, that probably made this legal. The rules committee may clean that up in the future.

Did you bother to read it?

From Article 9, section 3, article 2 of your very own link:

quote:

The ball carrier shall not grasp a teammate; and no other player of his team shall grasp, pull, or lift him to assist him in forward progress

Penalty is 10 yards from the previous spot.

The guest who was in formally in charge of officiating said you can only pus not pull a player into the endzone. He should know. But when I think of the Clemson pick plays a few years ago, it is clear that no one really knows most of the rules.

Except I am pretty sure it is not illegal.

ETA
Okay. I figured if you could push a player from behind you would be able to pull him. I'm genuinely surprised.

The announcers said it was now legal due to a rule change this year. Is that not true?
