“For too long, Auburn has chosen a humble approach to our program’s storied history – choosing to recognize only Associated Press National Championships. Starting this fall, we have made the decision to honor the accomplishments of our deserving student-athletes, coaches, and teams from Auburn’s proud history,” Auburn athletic director John Cohen said in a statement, via On3. “Our visible National Championship recognitions now align with the well-established standard used by the NCAA’s official record book and our peers across the nation.”

Alabama needs to actually claim all of ours. All 34 of them.

Claiming 2004 and 1993 is objectively hilarious

I agree that it's hilarious, but not as hilarious as the 1941 championship claimed by Alabama.

Turrible timing for an off-season move.

It's a dumb claim, but it's been claimed since it happened and that was in the era of 20 different publications declaring a champion.

Auburn retroactively claiming national championships that have taken place in recent memory- including one when there was actually a defined system that they didn't win, is giving off big time UCF vibes

Yeah, nobody knew how much USC was cheating at the time so it took some time to award the championship to the correct team.

Looks like Auburn really wants to take the reputation of being the gayest college from A&M.

1983 I can see
1993 I think they may have been the best team but probation?

1958 is LSU's

I wouldn't put it on the level of what UCF did. That Auburn 2004 team had more top 10 wins than USC and Oklahoma.

The most Auburn thing imaginable is to claim national titles while sitting at home for getting caught for cheating.

What's the difference in giving a player some steaks to take home to cook vs eating them in the cafeteria?

Some of them are absurd ('93 and '58). The rest are whatever and open for debate. '83 and '04 should've always been claimed.

So you also claimed one where you were being punished for cheating for good measure

Sounds like time for Kentucky Basketball to dust off those Helms Titles.
