I actually didn't mind it with Tebow because he actually seems genuine about his faith. Cam Newton and Gene Chizik on the other hand

This is my feeling, at least with regard to Newton. If you are going to put yourself on a pedestal and proclaim yourself to be God's instrument on national TV, you are accepting a TON of responsibility as a Christian witness and role model. This means that you basically have to live the life of Tim Tebow. ZERO premarital sex, no cussing, getting drunk at the club, etc etc etc.

I hated Tebow on the football field, but I have mad respect for that man for living up to the lifestyle he preaches. Tebow had an army of media trying to catch him slip up once, but he has been 100% faithful to everything he has said.

It really is funny how much it reminds me of Dubose. If AU has a period of NCAA turmoil or losses on the field..watch out.
The same folks who write in Roy Moore for Gov. won't be ALL IN if the kitchen gets hot.

my dad roomed with tebow's dad at uf and western seminary out in oregon... the newtons are in no way shape or form even close to tebow-esque. in fact they are the epitome of scum and pretty much the exact stereotype of a shady southern preacher.

If Cam Newton had the reputation of Tebow then I think it would be great.

But I think every time Cam invokes God's name that God is in heaven saying "hey dude, I'd like you to keep me as far away from that as possible"

I think you are missing the point of praising God after a win. They aren't crediting him for giving them more points. They are thanking Him for giving them the opportunity.

Do they curse God when they drop balls, get burned by a faster player, or outcoached? The 'God in sports thing' always makes my eyes roll.

What is your take on this year's Auburn team and their "Tebow-esque", "its a God thing" mentality in their run to the title?

biggest case of hypocrisy this side of Jim Bakker

Christ is about redemption, Jesus came for the sinners of which I am first. Cam has sinned, as has everyone.

Now I do wish they would word things differently, but professing their faith is what is important. I would never judge someones heart, that is for God to do.

This type of posturing shows immaturity in your faith. The Classic is the "We won because God was with Us" statement. God is involved in a much larger picture and I don't think Football is at the top of his list.

Does God not have better things to do? There is a difference between God and Chrsitina. God belons to all of us. Chrsitian is one type of religion. Is Auburn not a Public University? Shouls a non Christian have rooted for the Ducks then? I think not.
