Chizik, I like his approach. Hire the best people and let them do what they do best.

Not an Auburn fan but people make Tuberville out to be more than he was. Yes, he's a brilliant defensive coach. However, he was way too conservative on offense and his teams were always boring as frick to watch. They didn't crush inferior teams as often as they should have. He's like the Marty Schottenheimer of college football.
I thought you were talking about RC Slocum for a moment.
And Tubs was DC one year for RC

I was always a Tubbs fan. Still am. But chiz is winning me over
I like the way he handles himself and I like the fact that he will not sit on a lead.
He has done very well with the talent he was left with and what he has recruited.
I like both but Chiz has the edge right now.

Chizik.
If Tubs were at Auburn right now, he would be losing 5 or 6 a year due to the competition shift in the SEC. Tubs was a solid, but nothing more than a 8 or 9 win coach in a down conference at the time.

Chizik. I loved Tubbs, but Chiz is more cut-throat and will never take his foot off the gas, like Tommy did if we got up 7 or down 10.

Well, as a general philosophy, Tubs lived by the maxim of "get a 3-point lead early and sit on it", i.e. the "Tubershell".
Anything different from that is better IMO.
Ergo, Chizik is the better coach.

I always felt Tubby could never get it completely rolling on the plains. Like he would have a really good year but then have a losing year right after as opposed to going something like 8-5 in the down year. This year will be a big test for Chizik. Will it be a 9-4 year or will it be a 6-6. It will be interesting.
Well, you've made me do something I don't like here and that's defend Tubs... but, in Tub's defense, he only had 2 losing seasons, his first year (post-Bowden disaster) and his last year (a disaster all his own). So I don't quite understand what you mean by his always having a good year followed by a losing year.
Did you mean good year followed by a "down" year?

It's def to early to decide but I feel like chizik is making a great start of course. Tubbs wouldve been great if he'd fired the staff that kept us from breaking through to the next level. I believe the last couple of years their negative attitudes caused his downfall. He gave up on recruiting when we couldve made a big splash after 2004 success.
I respect tubbs and certainly don't blame all of it on him, I know Auburn did some shady things to him in return.

Coach Chizik. He has the best staff in College Football. He is also a National Championship Winning Coach. This is an achievement that Tubbs does not have on his resume.

Tough to say at this point, I agree with that. But from the parameters you've set, Ears obviously had a problem with the offensive side of the game when he had his assistants name their OC.
This year will tell a lot about Chiz. Both good D men, no doubt. Ears would pull the upset, but then again, he'd lose a gimme. We'll see what Chiz does this year.

I haven't seen enough a Chiz to make the call, but I would lean toward Tubbs if we are talking strictly game day coach. Overall HC I think I would lean towards Chiz, but I still need a couple of more years to be sure.

I agree with the general sentiments expressed so far. It is a little early to tell about Chizik. Obviously he is off to a fantastic start. I'm curious to see how he does the next few years, especially when we inevitably lose Gus.
At this point, and strictly as a game-day coach, for a big game I'd take Tubs. He had an awesome record against top ten teams and we won some amazing upsets in his time on the Plains.
But as others have noted Tubs would usually lose one or two games a season that we should have won and he would get overly conservative when we had the lead.
IMO giving it to Chizik just b/c he has an official championship and Tub does not is unfair b/c in 2004 we won all our games. Not his fault that two teams ranked above us in pre-season ran the table.

Chizik is the better coach as long as he has Malzahn as his OC.

I never want to sit through a 3-2 beauty again, Chiz by a mile. Also, It's just awesome knowning your O can score on every play. I love it when we get the ball.

WTF are you talking about?
Tubby had two seasons of .500 or worse. His first and last year at Auburn.
