So maybe the kind of guy who would sue the NCAA over making Johnny ineligible? I know Manziel signed a contract with the NCAA to play, but the NCAA is the only game in town for college athletes. They have better standing than you would think.

I'm no lawyer, but the Manziels seem like the right kind of assholes to make this another headache for the NCAA.

I could see the Manziel's suing everybody involved if this ends badly for Johnny.

I have a friend of a friend of the teacher that Johnny was sleeping with in Jr. High whose son played on his little league team and talked to the concessions vendor at the ballpark frequently. That vendor told the kid that Johnny would trade his signed baseball cards for extra big league chew. I knew then that Johnny was out of control.

Similar to the CAM situation? Tony Barnhart - Mr. College Football (my comments)
Auburn's position was that its coaches had no contact with Rogers (no question about that part) and that Cam Newton had no knowledge of his father's actions.(Possible, family is the last to know when a father has an affair)

Critics of the decision to let Newton play -- and there were many -- believed strongly that Cecil Newton's solicitation of Mississippi State through Rogers constituted a violation that should have rendered the quarterback ineligible to play at Auburn or anywhere else.

But at the end of the day the NCAA realized that the rules were not clear on the subject. If Cecil Newton had received money from Mississippi State, his son could have been ruled ineligible at Auburn. If Cecil Newton had solicited money from Auburn, his son could have been declared ineligible. But the NCAA did not have a rule that expressly prohibited a parent from soliciting from one school when the athlete actually goes to another school.................

Here is one final way that the cases of Cam Newton and Johnny Manziel could be alike. Given Johnny's "colorful" behavior this summer, half the population(80%) is not going to give him the benefit of the doubt and has already made up its mind that he took the money. And if he plays the entire season, the radio talk shows are going to explode with callers convinced that he broke the rules and got away with it because he was a big-time quarterback with a lot of well-heeled people invested in his success.

the manziels giving the ncaa a headache will not end well for a&m in the future.

MORE CAM Comparisons.. (helped get the truth out, thanks Johnny Football)...
Barrett S
The specifics of the two cases are much different, but this scandal is structured like the one that involved Cam and Cecil Newton in November 2010, when reports surfaced that Cecil Newton had a conversation with Mississippi State coaches about money during Cam's recruitment.

No evidence ever surfaced about Cecil having a similar conversation with Auburn or any other program; but for about two weeks, Cam's eligibility hung in the balance.

Oh shut up. I'm a college kid at Texas A&M. How hard do you think it is for me to know somebody who went to high school with Johnny? His arrest record in high school also seems to back up what I said.

It doesn't really involve a&m unless they played him knowing he was ineligible. If it happened after the bowl game, aTm should be in the clear.

This NCAA is facing other lawsuits dealing with player compensation. It's a different game now.

I think it all happened off-season, so unless TAM was on the take , which they were not, they have no issue. JM will just be suspended. I think other than the bad press, TAM has nothing to worry about , except who's starting at QB. I bet Sumlin is just about had his fill with JM. With AM's schede he can get to 8-4 w/wo JM. And that with a CFA or Outback bid , sets him up pretty good.

Wouldn't it be ironic for the King of Me to be the sacrificial lamb in the downfall of the NCAA?

Maybe Johnny Football's suspension will open the doors for future players to get to sell their own autographs.

The poetry would be both funny and sad.

The discussion right now , is to go to full cost if scholarship. So in a sense if it costs $25,000 to go to UGA, plus cost of books and dorms. Player would get that amount and be responsible for paying all fees.

But that seems kinda of slippery to me.

Why can't they just allow part time jobs or whatever, but you have to report every dollar earned, and if it seems like your exploiting the ncaa, university, etc you get penalties.

Then on top of that to discourage, the whole memorabilia issue, make any school promoting their student athletes , set up a fund for that student earning a percentage of the profits, that are compounded and paid at time of departure.

That seems fair to me.

Yeah, I really thought last summer was the worst thing Manziel was gonna do. We were so wrong.

Good to see that some of you guys are coming around to see this for what it is...a spoiled kid putting himself WAY above the team. The other interesting thing is that you rarely see him taking some of his team-mates along for the ride. In the end, that's a good thing but it also leads me to believe that he probably isn't the most popular kid on the team. If his head wouldn't have gotten so big so fast...he could have drawn massive amounts of ho's for his FB buddies. Instead...he wanted to hang with Drake and Lebron. There is no I in team JFF...you little douche.

Think about where this kid is heading in a few years? We don't even know if his abilities will translate in the NFL (where everyone has speed)and he's already acting like the second coming of Drew Breese. Who sees anything remotely similar (off field personality) b/w DB & JFF? That's what buys you extended time in the NFL and it's more about what drives a person. JFF looks like he's fine with being remembered for his "awsomeness"...off the field. I will say this...he looks like he would be a fun guy to party with. He can definately hang...

i don't.

if you think the programs of Bama, LSU, USC, Ohio State, UT, UF, Oregon, etc have an advantage now on the lower tier schools just wait til kids start making money off of selling their jerseys.
