I mean, y'all did read that statement, right? LSU independently made the decision to suspend him and then reinstate him. He has not been cleared by the NCAA.

Held out, suspended, whatever. Point is that the university made both decisions unilaterally.

Also, there is literally nothing in the OP that even mentions Smart being held out or suspended or whatever you want to call it, so I'm not sure why you people were so desperate for an update - but there you go.

No, he wasn't. The NCAA hasn't made any decision yet. As the statement says, the inquiry is ongoing. It was LSU's call to hold him out, and LSU's call to go ahead and play him based on the information he gave them. There was also a thinly veiled shot at Will Wade in the last line, I think.
In any event, it's always the university's call on whether to play a kid while the NCAA investigates. Based on the information they have, they have decided to roll the dice on Smart. If he turns out to be ineligible, there will be consequences. If not, then they will come out smelling like a rose.
