Hopefully a good chunk to programming/production for a 1st rate network. I really fear a BillyBob&Bubba network. We'll see.
Lets hope.
As far as paying for school's travel expenses, the SEC shares quite a bit in comparison to other conferences. What the conference has been doing has been very successful and like I said, it's easy to say "let's use xx money for xx project" without knowing how it's going to be used initially.
And if it was just a plane issue that was the calculation problem, then Mizzou shouldn't face the higher cost in the future. Correct?

Yeah, and it's over 1000 miles to Rutgers (if we went Big10). And it's close to 1000 to Texas Tech if we stayed in Big12. Way to be obtuse though, nice.
Yeah, but Mizzou is still further away from more schools in the SEC, than their time in the Big XII.

Secondary question.
What aircraft / bus does your school own or lease?
(that was aimed at all schools - not just Mizzou)

Seriously, what is your issue? The entire purpose of this thread was to flame Mizzou. I, like several other posters, were pointing out that the expenses were higher because Mizzou obviously had to travel further. You don't need to come in guns-a-blazin'.

Actually, not really
I saw the Mizzou travel bus a few times this season and wondered if it was new and that was where part of the 1 million over run went or if other overruns were also not mentioned. Since Mizzou is supposed to have a top notch journalism school I figured more Mizzou fans would be on top of this.

Ummm, actually it was about a 1 million dollar under budget for travel expenses. Glad you can follow along though, must be the Gump in you. Obviously the avg distance is further in the SEC, thanks mr obvious.

The budget ran over because Mizzou people are stupid and can't do math, nobody knows about the team bus because the Journalism school is complete garbage. Even if it wasn't, Mizzou fans don't care enough to show up to games let alone read stories about the bus.

It seems Mizzou was really meant for the Big 10 instead of the SEC.
Do y'all ever have an original thought anymore?

Did not even bring that up
Seriously tho that bus you guys have looked pretty sweet so I really was wondering if it was new? I know they are not cheap so it was a valid question. If say 500K of that million was for the bus it makes more sense for the budget to be that far out of whack.
You guys are in the SEC now so it was more of a challenge than a slam about your journalism school. SEC has serious stalkers when it comes to sports as UK fans had the "white door" incident and during realignment SEC folks were tracking planes all over the country. Just thought some Mizzou board would have picked up on this already and had something to report back.
If I was just out to rustle Mizzou jimmies I would have started a Hogs are better than Tigers thread.

In all honesty, I'm guessing the initial budget was purposely understated to alleviate concerns from a number of people on the university side about the increased costs of SEC membership as pertains to athletics. I'm guessing it was political.
We are no strangers to tracking planes, and in fact, even did it two years in a row. Mizzou fans knew about the flights with Deaton and whoever the OU guy was to College Station before there was a mumble about it on twitter. I don't know about the bus, but I can say that the equipment trucks haven't been replaced as far as I know and that the bus has been around since before DGB's recruitment.
On occasion, Pinkel will use the Pinkelcopter on recruiting trips, but I don't know if that goes into recruiting budgets or travel budgets. I do know Mizzou got a cool new helicopter for the hospital, but that's got nothing to do with anything here, it just looks cool.

That is a pretty sweet looking copter!
See, that is what I mean. That makes more sense and helps folks outside MU understand what is going on inside MU that is not getting to the media. SEC is like a small town in that everybody knows everybody in towns business. Difference is unlike most of the other conferences we keep it in house.
Is the Pinklecopter part of MU or is it "trade in kind" from a donor? Some schools had planes in realignment and other schools travelled for the talks in donor planes to keep it off the radar. The best stalkers were the Ducks fans when they not only had the plane tracked but were taking pics of their new coach getting off said plane. That was truly impressive.

With all my guessing about the budget, I had read something a few months ago that is similar to what grayback was saying. There were issues with our charters a few times that involved certain non revenue teams being upgraded into regional jets instead of what was normally used (turboprops, I believe) that caused some unexpected increases in spending. It was message board stuff that I believe was reported by the Columbia Daily Tribune, but I think it's been blocked by the CDT's paywall. I haven't been able to find anything on google.
Pretty sure it's a donor copter when Pinkel does his thing.
When it comes to the plane tracking it was pretty easy in our case, since there isn't a whole ton of non scheduled flights out of Columbia Regional Airport that fly IFR and are able to be tracked. There are even fewer flying out of Columbia non stop to places like Norman, College Station, Lincoln, Birmingham, etc. It really wasn't too hard to figure it out, especially for someone with a little bit of knowledge of aviation like myself.
In my opinion, that was actually the funnest thing about realignment. I even watched the Pac10 plane making the rounds to the Texas schools and kansas during the first round of realignment.

I guess the Misery folks should have looked at a map before joining the SEC.
It isn't like they joined, and then we moved all the other schools.
