Sorry if this has already been provided, but something similar happened in Austin, Texas in 1989 to a historic live oak called the "Treaty Oak".
Dude who poisoned that tree was sentenced to serve nine years in prison.

felony criminal mischief. Never heard of that one before.

Im just glad there is now an understanding. Aubbies make fun of our dead coach and we can make fun of your dying arse trees and the National Hug a Tree movement that Aubbies are having for said dying arse tree.

It doesn't matter. people's personal information DOES not belong on here. News reports have been wrong before.

Dead Man Walking. Those southern mafia wannabes at Auburn know how to spread the cash around to get what they want. He needs federal protection!

I hate that the tree was poisoned, but Auburn was slowly killing the tree anyway.

i admit... i look at this LINK and find that this tree is pretty small for a 130-yr-old live oak. Maybe the growth has been stunted for decades?

I find it a little odd that the act of throwing toilet paper on the trees and pressure washing them was killing them slowly was not an issue, and people continued to do it. Obviously, what the guy did was utterly deplorable, but the trees were suffering in their storied tradition at the hands of their own fan base. Where was that public outcry?

Ahhhhhh... rationalization. Does that make you feel better? Because you shouldn't feel bad in the first place. YOU didn't do it. Or, just maybe... do you know a guy named Harvey?

(Oh, by the way, yeah the "rolling" wasn't good for the trees and your oh-so-sincere concern for the health of our now-dying trees was addressed years ago. The trees HAD been getting much healthier for years now since those concerns had been addressed. Your crimson blood brother has taken permanent care of that concern though, now hasn't he?)

Um on the other tree thread, someone commented on us lining the streets for the Bear's funeral because he was a "drunk and a cheater".

Don't really see how that fits within the definition of "not disrespecting his death".

I mean all the Auburn fans with skeletons with houndstooth on them might be construed as disrespectful...

Sucks that some idiot killed your trees, but I don't think Auburn fans can complain about any jokes we crack about it.
